IMAP email?

Can anyone tell me whether or not I can have my emails "pushed" to my phone using an IMAP email account? I am considering getting my own web site hosted thru one of the companies out there and they show that they offer IMAP email accounts but not Exchange Server accounts. I googled it and seems that this will work, but I'm not sure.
