First of all keep in mind version 2.2 is beta so it may not work 100% perfectly. Also, you will probably need to download the Slow Processor version.

And yes, if you connect via Wi-Fi and call from your Skype to another person's Skype, there's no extra charge.

As a side note, you don't need a Wi-Fi connection, many users use Skype over their EV-DO connections.

just fyi for people, the link to skype 2.1 for slow processors can be found by removing "_beta" from the end of the u r l in Bantis's post.

[i was trying to post the u r l, but apparently am not a sufficiently legit member to be allowed to post u r l's, or even use the word u r l in a post, for that matter ]

i have not investigated compiling upx from source on my mac though, so the upxed version is (possibly) yet to come.

You actually just need an internet connection. Whether that internet connection is via Wi-Fi, dialup, broadband, or whatever, you still require the internet.

If you're calling from computer to computer, YES, it IS free. Yahoo messenger has something similar, AIM, etc. There are also SIP software that basically allows computer to computer free. Skype uses a proprietary protocol and is a easier to configure/use than most others.

As I mentioned, from computer to computer IS free. Another cheap is to buy a skype-in number in the foreign country. People in that country would get charged for making a call to a local number (your skype-in number). When they make the call, it will ring on your computer when you have Skype running. Or you can buy a skype enabled phone.

Which version of Skype 2.2 do I choose?

There are no Treos listed here:
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/...and_other.html

Are people finding that the latest is the greatest?

Skype has never listed the Treo as supported officialy, not sure why. It will definitely work though, no doubt about that.

The latest one definitely has more features, probably better codecs, etc (I haven't used Skype in awhile) but the original version I posted here was b/c it was more streamlined for the Treo and ran faster.

So you can try either or both and compare. Post your results if you do!

I use the High CPU version and never had any problems. I never bother trying the low CPU version, since I never had any problems with the current version I'm using.
