Update to WebOS Quick Install

The good people at PreCentral have an updated to WebOS Quick Install.

Without rooting you can now:
  • Add/delete launcher pages
  • 5x4 icons on launcher page
  • Downloading in web browser
  • Hide NFL/NASCAR applications
  • PDF Viewer works in landscape
  • Change boot logo
  • Change dialer background
  • Change lockscreen background
  • Add stylish analog clock theme
  • Squarify the screen (hide round corners)

Coz

Re: Update to WebOS Quick Install

This is nice. I would recommend this to anyone who wants tweak their Pre. It makes it so much easier than having to root your Pre and hope you entered everything correctly.

Re: Update to WebOS Quick Install

Tell me about it. It took me a couple attempts over the course of 2 days to get my launcher background to be clear.

I know easier tweaks are in the pipeline and pretty soon making system changes will take about 5 seconds of just checking radio buttons.

Coz

Coz this is bomb thanks man! Can't wait to give my pre a facelift tomorrow! If you have any useful/unique facelift stuff, shoot me a pm. Had this pre for 3 days and still learning. So far all I've done is homebrew.

CozBoogie 08-20-2009 11:45 PM

Re: Update to WebOS Quick Install

Homebrew is just so damn easy now especially if you have FileCoaster on your Pre.

Rooting is pretty easy...but damn there seems to be a lot of variables based on your PC. But once you get it figured out you can do a boat-load of stuff.

Hit me up in pm with specifics or shoot me an email to my hotmail account.

Coz

could u point us to where u get the patches to do the things in ur list? thanx

CozBoogie 08-21-2009 05:53 PM

Re: Update to WebOS Quick Install

No patches needed. Just follow the directions to download WebOS Quick Install on to you PC. Then connect Pre to PC via the USB cable. And then open WebOS Quick Install and you can make all of those changes simply by selecting via check boxes.

Make sure you only do one change at a time and let the phone reboot after each change.

Coz

Don't forget to put your Pre in developer mode. And the patches are under Tools -> Tweaks in Quick Install.

I have to say now that things have been moving along in the Pre devs, Im loving this phone almost as much as my previous modded Diamond. The homebrews are easier to install and cant wait to see what coming in the future.

I made my own transparent 320X480 wallpaper and used WebOs Quick install to send it to "/usr/lib/luna/system/luna-applauncher/images" folder on my Pre...is there an easier way? Is it possible to use windows explorer in Win Vista to manually navigate to that same images folder on the Pre in order to copy and paste wallpapers as needed? I can't seem to be able to access the Pre's folder system. This would be much easier if I could, then a reboot to finalize the changes. Any other suggestions on this?

A much easier way is to use WinSCP. It'll give you file explorer access to your Pre. Then you can just cut and paste items like images, etc.

It's sooooo much easier then using WebOS for deep navigating and replacing files.

Can I now install the Tether App without rooting?

syanni85 08-27-2009 01:47 PM

Re: Update to WebOS Quick Install

you can install the app without rooting yes, i have it installed but haven't used it yet, so i'm not sure if you have to root to use it tho. For some reason my USBnet configuration will not stay on when i turn it on :(
