Pre email

I am thinking about getting a pre but I was wondering how email worked. Right now I have a touch pro and do not pay the extra cash for push. I have a $15 data plan and use third party software for push email. Before I found the software I just used the standard WM pull every hour.

My question is, to get push do you have to have a plan with activesync (I know people say you have to have an SE plan but that was the case with the TP as well, and if you get one from outside you do not have to.) If you just have a regular data plan is there a built in pull system? Is there any third party software to push it for you?

Thanks.

Did this ever happen. If so, I would not need third party software or servers.

Re: Pre email

I have a data share plan that my wife and I use and I have my Pre setup with push email for both gmail and my exchange account without any additional charges for the push capabilities.

Re: Pre email

Well that is nice to know. I think I am on a vision plan so it might work differently. Did you have a WM device before with the same capabilities?

Re: Pre email

You are going to have to switch to an Everything Data plan to get the Pre, so don't worry about the data package you have now. And if you have a Gmail email account, the Pre supports IMAP IDLE so your emails will be sent to you in near real-time.

Yes I did. You do not need a SE plan, just an unlimited data package.

Not true. You have to have one of the Everything plans. It can be Simply Everything or Everything Data, but a normal data add-on will not work on the Pre like it does with WM phones.

Re: Pre email

So I just looked it up on Sprint Users and it appears to not be possible. THanks for the help but no pre for me.

Re: Pre email

Even my pop3 email "pushes". I set it to retrieve emails as they arrive, and if I send an email from my home computer account, my pre notification goes off in seconds.

Re: Pre email

Yes the Palm Pre does have instant push email without the need for third party software. You also have the option to check email accounts at different time intervals. Email is much better on the Palm Pre than Windows Mobile ands it's also way more user friendly. You really can't argue that either because it's true.
I really like the "It just works" aspect of the Palm Pre.
