Re: Thinking About Making Move to Pre instead of TP2 Help me Decide

Well I am probably the minority here but I think I will be going with the Touch Pro 2. I like how the Palm Pre works but I can not get over the keyboard. It's just not functional for me. When I went to the touch pro I instantly loved the keyboard. The keyboard on the Pre works but really is a step backward. I dont know why they couldnt have had a keyboard like on the Instinct.

It would have been the perfect phone for me had the keyboard been better thought out. I text alot as well as send many e-mails so this was a big feature for me.

Now besides that the form was very intuitive. I think once one because familiar with the menus they will have no problems navigating around. This is typical with any phone.

Being able to have multiple applicatons open is nice but in all honesty the touch pro does that too. The only difference is that on the pre they are readily available with a flick of a finger. On the pro you just had to go to task manager and go from there. Nice on the Pre but it's not like the Pro is lacking.

My last gripe is the exchange server is not working yet. I cant get too mad because the phone is new but you would think with all the other Palm phones that are out and work this should have been easy too.

All in all, the Pre is a great phone but since texting and emailing is a large portion of what I do, I will be waiting to see what the Touch Pro 2 can do.

thas what is all about bro. people need to emphasize on whats better for them rather than anything, the pres kb is fine for me but we can all agree with the kb on the pro2 being better for more comfortable txping for heavy texters like youself. enjoy your pro2

Re: Thinking About Making Move to Pre instead of TP2 Help me Decide

Windows Moble 6.5/6.1 are great for customization but they are still behind the curve (as a former mogul, touch, touch diamond user I know). I've had the palm pre for two days and continue to be impressed. Here are a few gripes I do have however:

1. Lach of padcast section/support
2. Some slowness at times
3. More apps and sdk already
4. More robust mp3/video player

The touch pro2 is a hard core business phone, if you need international go with it (sim card slot will be available). The voice conference features are awesome as well. But it has a large screen and small battery so you'll need an extended battery. I would stick with a touch pro for another year if you can deal or go with the palm pre if you can't. The touch pro2 inner hardware is virtually the same as the tp (cpu, ram, etc.). If you can wait for Windows Mobile 7 your it will be a game changer. Iphone and Palm have some very stiff competition coming next year from what I've seen.

im in the same boat. I love and hate winmo. but i really like the fact that the pre is FAST. i like that winmo is fully customizable but its also slow clunky and did i mention it crashes lol (but u all knew that)

Switched to the Pre from my Diamond and the only thing I miss is the tethering.

Re: Thinking About Making Move to Pre instead of TP2 Help me Decide

I just took the plunge based on this thread.. (switching from touch pro)

Only 6 months into my contract, so paying full price.. Worst case, I can try it, right?

Love my touch pro, but just wanted to try something new.. and I figure stepping out of WM for a year or so might make windows mobile 7 come around faster

Apps that I'm going to miss -

slingplayer (I know they're working on this on the palm pre)
flexwallet (there's other ewallets - but I liked flexwallet)
kinoma play (haven't found a podcast player yet on the palm pre - but I'm sure they're coming)

@diomark

I agree. I will miss some apps as well. But windows mobile will not get another dime of my money until the come out with windows mobile 7. Creating a cool theme and changing the 1 to a 5 in the name IS NOT PROGRESS.

I am a MS certified dev. I am a MS fanboy. But enough is enough.

I will be missing my pro, my flash addiction, kitchens and creating apps in VS. But at least I dont have to give up ppcgeeks

late,
Coz
had a touchpro 3 months, sold it n got a pre, as did my wife, we've had 2 iphones, 2 blackberrys razrv3 in the last yr or two, not sure if the pre is as good as i thought it was when i brought it home, still evaluating it, that said, it is cheaper to own than iphone due to the monthly charges and i havent had dropped calls for the previledge

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this isn't happening until the 2nd half of 2010, right? If that's the case, it's a year from now and I'll be ok with buying a new phone if WM7 wows me. I was considering just getting the TP2, but only if a WM7 upgrade was possible in the near future...now that I've read it's gonna be over a year, I'm just gonna go for the pre I think.
