Palm Pre on Verizon/Alltel?

Okay so I have recently bought the Alltel Touch Pro. And Im not fond of it really... I have had it for 3 months, and my 5th replacement is in the mail....
SO, Im looking for a new phone. I really liked the palm pre.
Can I buy on on ebay that comes without a contract and put it on verizon?
Will I have any restrictions?

Re: Palm Pre on Verizon/Alltel?

More than likely, no, you cannot activate it on Verizon or Alltel. Unless someone can unlock it and change it to work with other networks, it will only work with Sprint.

Re: Palm Pre on Verizon/Alltel?

You'll have to convice someone at VZW or Alltel to add the ESN to their database. Near impossible.

Re: Palm Pre on Verizon/Alltel?

Sprint has exclusive rights to the Pre for at least 2 yrs, probably longer. verizon and other carriers will likly have similar Web OS phones over the next year, but not the Pre.

Two years? Where did you get that info? From all the articles I've read, Sprint won't say anything more than "We have the Pre throughout 2009". That's it. If they were going to have it longer, you'd think they'd want it known so they could get those potential customers to sign-up who are sitting on the fence waiting to see what carriers get it and when.

Verizon's CEO said that they will get the Palm Pre, "and a cousin," the BlackBerry Storm 2, the BlackBerry Tour, and Google Android phones over the next six months.

UPDATE: New article on WSJ.com says Verizon will get Pre in January, or in other words, 7 months!

All the articles I've read state 6 months too, but sometimes this agreements have provisions to extend the exclusivity if a certain sales goal is met.

Well, I work for Sprint in the tech support center. All our info in training says at least 2 yrs w/ the option to renew similar to the way att is w/ the iphone.

verizons ad says phones "like" the pre in the next 6mo, so i'd say they are going to have a web os phone.

Re: Palm Pre on Verizon/Alltel?

Yeah WebOS isn't limited to just the Pre. The Pre is just one of the form factors of WebOS. It also happens to be the only WebOS phone in existence right now. Which means the more devices the more networks it's on the more developers that should jump on board to make apps.
