Re: Palm Pre Apps

Question: from reading this thread there is NO over the air sync for contacts/calandar from Exchange???

Asking because some of the specs I looked at indicated that you could.

If it won't it's a deal killer for me

You can definitely sync ota through exchange. Apparently you can sync up to two accounts

If I'm understanding you correctly, If it's like the older Palm devices it should sync with Exchange. You may need to have a plug in running on the Exchange server to enable that and it's not free. I tried to get my company to do that for me when I had a Treo and they wouldn't purchase the license.

Re: Palm Pre Apps

Is there a website that lists the current applications available on the catalog for the pre? Been searching but haven't found a definite website..

And I know some people will say just go buy the phone but I am curious to see what apps are arriving and at what rate before I get the phone.. as that will change my decision! I'm tired of my Diamond and constant flashing to have it "perfect"!

Thanks!

Re: Palm Pre Apps

Picked up my Pre on release day, shelving my HTC Touch with WinMo 6.1 that had so many issues I don't even want to get into it. (What good is a PDA/Phone that screws up making/receiving phone calls anyway?)

So far I've pulled down quite a few apps and been fairly impressed with almost every one of them.

Mobile by Citysearch. Sure, it's been around, but this version runs smoothly, gets GPS fixes quick and just plain works.

Fandango. VERY nice app. Finds you via GPS, finds the theatres close, plays back trailers smoothly and quickly. Lets you buy your tickets in the app, etc. This is a nicer movie interface than anything I've come across on the Web.

Classic. Works and works well. Even though there's a huge library of older Palm apps out there, I'm not real interested in running them via Classic as they just look so dated compared to the polish on Pre apps. Very nice to have just in case there's something you can't live without though.

Where. A slightly different play on the Mobile by Citysearch app. This one is more geared towards bars and nightlife. Heh, has one button on the top layer to immediately find you the nearest Starbucks. It's definitely more social, with Chat walls and the ability to have your own graphic avatar icon.

Infopedia. Very nice front end to Wikipedia with a good search system.

mCraig. Just relelased, a very nice Craig's list search/browser system. Heck, it's a hell of a lot NICER interface than the web interface itself. Shows all add pics well. Keeps a history of your search criteria so you can easily repeat your favorite topics. Allows bookmarking for easy call back, etc. I've found this Craigslist interface to be so much superior to their web interface that I turn to my phone to check Craigslist, not my PC.

Speed Brain. This is the only app I've hit so far that was a waste of download time. It has one simple pattern matching game in it and seems to be more of an ad for the author than an app. Don't bother.

Heck, I just checked the app store and there's a half dozen new apps that weren't there yesterday, I'll have to go check them out.

Yes, the selection is small right now, but it's already tripled or quadrupled since I got the phone. Once more devs pick up the SDK it'll be a flood. We could only be so lucky for all future apps to be as good as what is currently out.
