How long are you gonna accept standards laid down by a device that is ancient history in a rapidly changing market? You might as well say Alexander Graham Bell didn't have apps the first month.

Every major system, Apple, WinMo, Palm, Android and Blackberry now have app markets and if one device can't keep up with the competition then they are failing. Period.

While I normally agree with you, I can't help but disagree in this case. This phone just came out. If you want to look at classic apps, then palm has way more than others. Why? Cause palm has been around for years. I don't think you can fault or credit Palm for their app store, YET. Its still too new. If in several months from now it is still lacking or slow, then it might be a negative. How can you say that when this phone just came out and doesn't have a full selection app store yet its a failure? To me that just doesn't make sense. Just my opinion tho...

As a consumer, you can fault a product for anything you want.

I fault Palm for rushing the device to the market to beat the new gen iPhones. It may have been good for Sprint, but it is not good for the end user/consumer. The app store and the hardware should have been worked out before they started pushing the device.

True, but then all you have are a list of complaints. I agree with the basic idea of what you're saying, I just think that in general, this being a brand new os, how can you not compare it to other brand new os's? As far as rushing it, many thought it took way too long to be released. Plus, if you will compare it to the iPhone's current app store, the grand majority of the apps are 3rd party. How can 3rd party apps come out before the phone was released?

As far as Apple's next gen phone, I still think its ridiculous. I know this is not the place for this, so I'll keep it brief, but adding in a few features that are standards for everyone else is not a next gen phone. Compasses are already on any phone with gps, and this phone still does not have flash nor a camera flash. Regardless, I do not own a pre yet, my contract just ran out July 1st, and I'm still on the fence whether to get this or go to the iPhone. I just think the phone has enough issues, and on this one point about the app store, its not a major concern yet. Sorry for the rant, this is just something I personally have been thinking about.

Have the SDK ready and released prior to the release of the device so that development is in place and apps are already being submitted.

Re: Palm Pre Apps

I have to disagree with what I said earlier.

I found that with 106 apps, the games are getting little to no use on my IPod Touch. The Apps that I use are are the ones like ESPN Showcase, Myspace Mobile, Facebook, Pandora, Fandago, Twitter, Apps for Flight Times and tracking, Movie catalog apps, web show streaming apps, Netflix ect. Things of that nature, witch all seem to be web based.

So I find the games to become pointless but it is important to support them. Palm would support games soon, just be patient. If you look at there Job Listings, Palm is looking for a Game Frameworks Engineer, so we can expect them to support gaming.
