Best Buy to presell Sprint's HTC Hero starting September 13th

I wonder if we will know the pricing of the Hero in a few weeks? BB will probably sell it outright for $700+, as they like to jack up the price of phones. But it will probably go for less than $200, with a 2 year contract...

A leaked shot of a computer screen in Best Buy's internal system shows that the big box retailer could be soon taking pre orders on Sprint's HTC Hero. According to the picture, it appears that September 13th would be the starting date for taking the orders for the Android powered device. The Hero has HTC's proprietary Sense UI and is the first phone using Google's open source OS to support flash on the browser. As we reported last week when this CDMA version of the Hero visited the FCC, October 11th is Sprint's expected launch date of the handset. Pricing is not known at the moment.

Does anyone wager a guess as to what this means in relation to the actual release date?

Are we still thinking/hoping/praying for Oct. 11th?

I haven't checked much into the Hero, but is it GSM capable like the TP2? If not, I don't understand someone would buy the Hero for outright for $700 when it is only for the Sprint network.

Maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be nice to know if Sprint will allow this phone on a Sero plan first? What happens if you put the $50 down on it, then find out that it requires the everything plan?

Sprint told you? Who exactly said that?

I had telesales people telling me the Pre wouldn't require it either and that was a month before it was released. Those people are just guessing until Sprint actually releases the info on it.

cant say her name or position but i trust her, shes a suit for sprint and theres more to the story because im getting a hero and dont have sep but im getting a good deal on the hero whatever the price will be. bottom line is i trust her.i guess you can call sprint and ask but im sure they dont know. i also had a instinct with no sep and they said you couldnt with that piece of junk too.

So, granting Sprint will let you put the Hero on a SERO plan, can BestBuy do a 2year upgrade in store on a SERO line or do I have to call and argue with Sprint?

Just be sure to read/ask about the BB's return policy as for they might tack on a 15% or even the 25% restocking fee for opened merchandises. If from Sprint, I know for sure they charge you $35 for activated handset.

Re: Best Buy to presell Sprint's HTC Hero starting September 13th

i agree with Darren, that it wont require a SE plan... the Hero isnt a flagship device for sprint... their pride and joy Android device will come from Samsung as theyve claimed often.... so it looks like the InstinctQ, which is made by Samsuing will probably get the Android Franchise tag...

I didn't say you did. I said, granting Sprint will let you put the phone on a SERO line. I just wanted to know if BestBuy can do SERO upgrades in store or if you have to go through Sprint.

AFAIK, people were able to upgrade to their TP's while still on sero plans.

Best Buy was able to upgrade me to the TP back in October. It wasn't was straight forward as it should have been; the Best Buy rep did have to call Sprint and have them complete the transaction.... however all was done in Best Buy.

They are just pre-selling the unit. You won't walk out of BB with one in your hands on Sept 13...or 14th....or even the 15th. But at least we will find out whether it's like the GSM version, with the chin, or the rumored CDMA chin-less photos that recently surfaced.

Best Buy to offer Sprint Hero, Pre order NOW AVAIL In Some Locations

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/...ome-locations/

Best Buy announced yesterday that it would be Sprint’s exclusive retail partner (for 60 days, we hear) for the highly anticipated HTC Hero, which will be available at each of Best Buy’s 1,044 locations across the country beginning October 11th. As is always the case with Best Buy Mobile, there is no need to bother with that pesky mail-in rebate as BBYM is spotting customers the $100 and offering the Hero for a straight $179.99 on a 2-year contract. We’ve also learned that while pre-orders aren’t officially available yet, some locations are already offering to cement your position at the front of the Hero line. For those of you with nearby Best Buys that aren’t willing to bend the rules, pre-orders should officially be available in just over a week. If you’re lucky however, a lax location, a friendly sales rep and a $50 deposit are all you need to make it happen — as you can clearly see from the image above.

What are the advantages of pre-ordering? Do you get it quicker? Just reserve your spot in line so you don't have to go at doors open to get the 2-3?

How has Best Buy been in the past about pre-orders? I've heard of many cases where people that get it pre-ordered actually receive it later than those that cruise in and grab them.

I am not eligible for the 2yr upgrade price which $150 off...But I am eligible for the 1yr of $75...Will Best Buy give me the 1yr upgrade price still or should I just go through Sprint..?

this phone is good for my girlfriend. she can't handle the power of a tp2 and definitely will not be doing any customizations, she just needs a phone to work right out of the box, i will be picking this up for her.

I pre ordered today in NYC at 5th ave and 43rd St Best Buy. They first told me that it could not be pre-ordered. I am # 1 in that store. Hoping that I can keep SERO.

I was going to wait for the Leo but who knows when it will hit Sprint. Still might change my mind if they announce D2 or Leo or TG01 before October 11th.

I was thinking of D2 of tbh I'm tired of this windows mobile lack of support lol I might get d2 or tp2 only if Android becomes fully ported with everything working =]

From what they told me the phones get put aside for those that pre order. If you don't pick it up the day it is available it gets sold. Best part with buying at BB is no waiting for rebate. I'm #1 in my BB so I'm guaranteed to get one no matter how few they receive or how high the demand.

One thing though is that ordering online you won't have to pay an activation fee and also you might be able to get the save50 coupon to work and that will mean a $50.00 discount.

Nice not to have to wait for the rebate from Sprint though.
Hmm..

Well, it's the 13th and no pre-orders in the Tempe, AZ Best Buy. I plan on calling a few other locations, but I'm not that confident.

Anyone able to do the preorder today?
