Diamond2 En Route For Verizon?

All this talk about the Touch Pro2 and who's getting it first, we forgot all about the Diamond2. Did most carriers get it first anyway?

If you're holding out for a Touch Pro2 on Verizon... well, we really don't want to jump the gun and say that your wait won't be much longer -- the original Touch Pro just launched last November -- but signs of a XV6975 in a major certifying body are certainly a step in the right direction. We've heard from our sources that the XV6975 is going to be the go-to-market model number used by Verizon for its version of the Touch Pro2, and the Global Certification Forum has just gone ahead and approved precisely that model. If you're wondering what's up with all the mentions of GSM and HSDPA, wonder not -- like Telus, Verizon will be getting a global device for the business-minded folk that are likely to be latching onto this thing. Add in a 3.5mm jack and it's just a bag of awesome, isn't it?

We have already showed off pictures of a Touch Pro2 wearing Verizon colors. Today came word that the Global Certification Forum had approved XV6975 for an unnamed HTC smartphone. The XV prefix is usually the manufacturer's designation for Verizon, although the phone had very un-Verizon support for quadband GSM and single band support at 2100MHz for UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA. It could be a "world phone" for Big Red and early conjecture was that this model was the HTC Touch Pro2. By the time the sun went down in the east, it was speculated that the XV6975 was actually the HTC Touch Diamond2 and that Verizon's Touch Pro2 would be model XV6875. No launch date or pricing for either model was printed.
