Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 in the Wild!

I say go hardcore OS 'core' changes now, with some minor UI updates, then complete and radical UI change for WM 7.0... It would be nice to see them cut down the memory footprint the OS takes up.. But that is just nit-picking...

6.5 needs to be a pretty decent shake up though.

A change to the today screen UI would be essential. They've got to at least START to make the progress towards a touch screen friendly UI, even if they create a secondary WinMo Touch type thing.

Seeing the old style program launcher was disheartening, and the today screen looked uninspiring at best. You've got NUMEROUS third parties creating UI's for Windows Mobile that are successful, with TouchFlo3D being the current king. There is so much there for MS to take, look at, build off of, and go from and it is going to be pathetic if after all of that they still put something out that will make people go "God I wish I had Touchflo3D on here".

I understand changing up the "core" functionality and making things zippier, and that IS needed, but you've got the iPhone devouring WinMo, blackbery still going strong, and the Pre coming out of the gate like Jesus just returned and he brought cookies. They've GOT to update that UI at least a bit to look like its not something from out of 2001.

I think they have started by making scrolling through the programs menu and settings more touch friendly... attempting to scroll that on a stock ROM was awful, and it's only barely better with a custom ROM. Still, something needs to be done about the tiny side scroll bars, and in general making everything bigger (and then making it look nicer at the same time, like the Palm Pre and Android systems). They really don't need to be very creative nor spend much time to make it all much better.

also a big thing to remeber is that if you want an offical update that has everything look all nice and everything, then you can wait until next fall. we are getting this system after it has already been edit by a few other people. and so it is hard to really know for sure what it will do, and what it will not do at this point.

6 on 6 is AKU 1.4 and can be considered a service pack to WinMo 6 ... new browser and embedded touch features.

Looks like 6.5 will be a new GUI plus some rumors about skymarket and new cloud services.

At the end of the day this is just a leak of a part of the new OS running on old hardware (and in qvga) that probably doesnt have all the files and is running with bits of 6.1.

Wait till MWC, IMO.

Where is the new IE cab file? Do you have a link?

Even if you guys get the OS, how would you put TF3D back and make sure its compatible with 6.5? Wouldnt you need to wait for HTC to tweak it first?

haha we already have 6.5, we have had it all day. touch flo is already running on there.

the PIE cab we got does not boot up, check out my diamond thead for a small update of pie.

since we now have 6.5, the pie is a little better, smoother scrolling and everthing, rending is a lil faster. but still has a ways to go.
