Actually though... As sad it is.. I can see this being WM 6.5... Makes sense.. 6.0 to 6.1 was small updates, and 6.1 to 6.5 would be a bit more, like '6 on 6' and a small updated interface... Too bad though...

6.0 to 6.1 was more than small updates, a real task manager was very valuable to those not lucky enough to have an HTC device.

6 on 6 is AKU 1.4 and can be considered a service pack to WinMo 6 ... new browser and embedded touch features.

Looks like 6.5 will be a new GUI plus some rumors about skymarket and new cloud services.

At the end of the day this is just a leak of a part of the new OS running on old hardware (and in qvga) that probably doesnt have all the files and is running with bits of 6.1.

Wait till MWC, IMO.

I highly doubt this is even close to what the release product will be (if in fact this is actually WM 6.5). I will believe it when I see it.

I think we should have a RUMORS forum where stuff like this and all of the other so called WM6.5 and WM7 stuff can go. The Pocket PC News forum would be better off just having official and factual information about devices. Just my 2 cents.

Even if this is 6.5 is it going to discourge anyone from not upgrading to it?

A lot of the benefits will be in the Core system. If you compare this build to 21014

Quote:

wince.nls same as 21014 build
mxip_system.vol again no changes in SYS SHELL
compared my 21014 dump and this one i got 325 identical files.
this would be why MS had juicy remove 21014.

But a lot of the changes will be in the core and new registry we can use. also a lot of file management and speed overall. Maybe they are going to focus more on UI with WM7. and do core features now. this would make more sense. If they can get the core working now, and then focus on UI with WM7 then great.

If i really wanted to create this same rom it would be easy, i have the sliding panels already from the HTC rose. convert those over, hex edit the dsm in the xip, and then edit the shell MUI. and i have a 6.5 build then. it is not hard to do.
