That's VZW's monopolistic point of view though. If they buy out Alltel (provided the FTC allows such a merger), they will, by far, be the largest carrier in the country. In turn, they will view IN calling as being as good as my circle because they will have the largest subscriber base in the country.

I hope the FTC doesn't allow it. The only large CDMA carriers left will be VZW and Sprint. Sprint will be dwarfed by the merger and Sprint is already in financial trouble. Also, roaming agreements between Alltel, VZW and Sprint benefit all three right now, but VZW could shut Sprint down almost immediately by not extending current roaming agreements.

If this merger does go through, I hope that Deutche Telekom (T-Mobile) merges with Sprint. I know, I know, incompatible technologies is what got Sprint into trouble the first place. But, there are already many "world" phones being produced that have both CDMA and GSM radios on board. It doesn't seem too far a stretch to imagine phones being produced that have CDMA and GSM radios, with U.S. frequencies and make them capable of handing off from CDMA to GSM towers.

This is not good AT ALL... I really hope that it is not allowed to go through... but the FTC has already shown time and time again that it doesn't care (look at how quickly "the new at&t" was formed) so I have a feeling it will go without contest.

And yes, I definitely think that once it does go through, the roaming agreements between Alltel and Sprint will most likely be price-hiked to match Verizon. Under the current agreement, Sprint pays Alltel less than they pay Verizon for roaming. From what I understand its significantly less.

What?? Its called brainwashing my friend. America's Most reliable network my ***! More like, America's most Expensive network: Pay More and Get WAYYY less. Verizon's call quality and network WAS better 5 years ago, but not anymore.


I use both services and both have the same call quality. The only difference is that my Sprint phone has way faster EVDO speeds and is ridiculously cheaper ......I can't wait until my Verizon contract expires
