Calling leaving complaint to Gary Forsee

Update: Called the Gary Forsee # and reached the Executive Office and talked with Mondrell. He is researching the problem, he tried to tell me that it was because it was a WM PPC that our phones only use email service and that there is no way for MMS to work. And that because we are using a 3rd party hack that is not authorized by sprint that it could cause errors on our phones. I told him that the hack that allowed us to use our MMS was from Alltell 6800 which is also a CDMA company that there is no excuse that our phones cant also use MMS without a problem. He then asked where I was getting the information from online and I gave a list of all the sites that have anything to deal with sprint and the mogul/touch. I told him that this is a very hot dbate online and this is causing alot of hate and anger tword sprint. I hope I hear back some more from him.

I suggest more call this number and talk to Mondrell. Give him some more info. 866-727-0665

If it's any help to your battle, Telus (Canadian CDMA provider) gives the same story - that MMS simply isn't possible on any PDA/smart phones. Of course, their people don't differentiate the "problem" based on CDMA/GSM; they just say it's not possible with this type of phone and that it shouldn't matter because you can send pictures via email *rolls eyes*. This has caused us a lot of grief because my wife exchanges picture messages with her relatives back home on a regular basis, and THEIR phones don't do email or WAP, and thus the whole thing broke down and led to her returning her smartphone for a KRZR.

I like to point out to Telus that my Rogers (GSM carrier) Treo 650 does MMS just fine, and with number portability now, there's less and less reason for me to stay with them (after 16+ years)... I know this is going to hit the fan (read: I'm going to fling it into the fan full-force) when our contracts are up again.

Anyway, it's good to hear others have it working (carrier-supported!) on other CDMA phones...

Oh, and I did exchange some emails with HTC about the issue: their story is that MMS functionality is specifically removed (on WM5 phones) or not installed (on WM6) *at Telus's specification*. So it's not a question of the technology being capable, it's a question of the carrier intentionally crippling the phone.

The second quote is actually from the email I hastily wrote to them this morning.

Hesse is the new CEO at Sprint. Forsee was tossed out.

If anyone ever doubts or questions the fact that the HTC Touch can do MMS if "allowed" by the carrier, point them to this link, http://www.htc.com/flash/htctouch_learning/htctouch.htm from HTC's website.

Last year I added picmail to my account at $5 a month. On a PPC 6700 or in Sprint's own words "unsupported phone" they took my money and I could send and recieve picmail on my unsupported phone till Jan 27 of this year. At the time I added picmail they never said they couldn't add the service, or that my PPC 6700 wasn't supported. I am sure I am not alone in this, and it would be a valid complaint because of this precedent of them "allowing" me to pay $5 a month for an unsupported feature and then arbitrarily blocking it's use based on the type of phone on my account. This is yet another bad buisness move on Sprint's part, and hopefully the furvor created by this will get those as-yet-unnamed execs to pull their heads out of their a$$es and correct their mistake.

I almost took picture mail as I had it on my old ppc, but when I got the 6700 I told her I didn't need it. Amen
Everyone who has been paying that $5 for nothing should demand all their money back. How can you charge for something you refuse to support?

wldthng842 02-08-2008 10:37 PM

Because they tell you up front that it is not supported. If you want to pay they will not stop you but by them saying it is unsupported before they add it what makes you think they will change their opinion after you add it?

There is nothing BBB or consumerist can do, other than apply pressure where it hurts. They never once told a single customer that GPS or MMS was availably or working on those phones. It would be different if they screwed up and said they were at the time of purchase but not one of us was told that.

Since the only way to send MMS or PictureMail is through E-Mail I was wondering if it's possible to develop an application to make this an easier process. The application will ask for phone number or contact name, the carrier, the media to be sent, the subject, and the message. With all that information it'll compose an e-mail to [phonenumber]@[carrier'saddress].com

I've posted the idea to xda-developers in hopes that someone will pick up the project.
