Glad I'm not the only thinking that. The thing is Microsoft is such a powhouse in tech stuff, it shouldnt have taken the iPhone to wake them up. And with all the business Sprint, Verizon,,etc.... lost to AT&T with them being the only iPhone seller, you would have figured the phone companies would have forced Microsoft to make faster changes.

I doubt M$ would ever really take the innovative-cutting edge lead in windows mobile device's since their main market is PC applications and now... the Xbox/Media center integration.
They would be happy to...as schettj put... just copy and stay current. But I do not see them spear-heading smartphone/WM technology in future development & releases. I guess we should be thankful though to innovators such as Apple & Palm. They do pioneer innovative software & hardware technology that manages to leak into even our own devices and inspire custom applications for that make our devices better. I mean I never thought I would have touch technology, integrated messaging, (3) media players, etc on my 6800 when I bought it and it has continued to "evolve" . Woohoo. |

Did you even bother to read the links/articles? It clearly stats that this could be provided as a simple OS upgrade. There will be no need for gyroscopes and accelerometers. It will instead use the camera. This way it can tell if it's on a table, on the carpet, in your pocket, etc. Allows for cooler things to be done...at the cost of battery life. |

Can the microsoft bashing please stop? Microsoft CANT innovate. Whenever they do innovate, they get slapped with an anti-trust lawsuit. Steve Jobs always says, software companies should bmake their own hardware, could you imagine if Microsoft made computers and phones? I whole-heartedly believe they would blow away Apple products. But guess what, Apple doesn't get hounded by anti-trust claims because they do not have enough of the market share. As soon as everyone jumps to apple because of their innovations and new OSX Leopard, the anti-trust suits will hit them too.
I mean look at Surface. That is honestly one of the coolest pieces of technology I have ever seen. They won't get anti-trust problems for that because it is totally a niche product for right now.

All I have to say is that competition in the marketplace is extremely healthy. Competition fosters development and drives prices down.
I'm not loyal to either Apple or MS. I make my purchases based on which product can best fit my needs. Because ultimately how much difference is there really between say an iphone and an MS product (e.g., my 700wx). They both make/receive calls...can use mapping programs...can take pics...can play games...can listen to music...can surf the net, etc. I mean it's like the difference between Fender and Gibson. They essentially do the same thing...but there are slight differences in the way that they do it. late, Coz

I totally agree with you and ultimately if Microsoft builds a better product, the consumers should decide if it makes it or breaks it. I do not know why people fear microsoft that much. I mean so they bundle IE into windows, who cares if you hate IE you go download Firefox. If you hate Windows Mobile, you go buy an iPhone or a SYmbian phone, or soon an Android phone.

You know, Windows Mobile isn't that bad of a product to begin with. Add some more RAM, fix a few bugs, and viola, great product. Not perfect, but great.
This looks like a cool idea, and I can't wait to see it. |
