How to root the Droid, step by step with file downloads

Personally, I think I'm still going to wait a few days until the people responsible for it are a little deeper into it, but for those of you that want to try here's a link to a step by step. For those that are unsure DONT DO IT. There is a distinct possibility that you could completely and totally screw up your phone. In the Very near future this will become easier and more reliable to do, so if you're not totally comfortable just wait.

Re: How to root the Droid, step by step with file downloads

thats the point pretty much exactly.. rooting the droid will eventually lead us to load the custom roms we all know and loved from our winmo days.
it's way too early for that though, becasue there is nothing developed yet.. but now that there is root access, it will allow for some very talented and smart people to start figuring out how to create recovery images and such..
which all will lead us to custom roms !
and endless nights flashing once again...... ah.. can't wait !

for now though, there is no benefit.. other than perhaps actually 'being' rooted, so you are ready... they are already at work patching the current exploit that allows root right now as it is..

EDIT: here is a 'cleaner' link and explanation of the root step by step..
http://areacellphone.com/2009/12/mot...to-root-droid/

the phandroid site thread is just out of control and too ridiculous to follow.

Yes I can’t wait to start the endless cycle of flashing this phone. I originally thought it might be a safe bet that I wouldn’t be able to flash this phone but what do u know you guys figured it out again LOL. I’ll keep my eye on it and wait until the bugs are worked out but this phone has a lot of potential to it so it should be interesting to see what people come up with.
