Used the My Tracks app today, plus cool shortcuts
So off we went to the Valley of Fire state park in Nevada for a couple of hikes. I downloaded the Tracks app last night before we went. There was No cell service where were went.
So, I turned on the my tracks app when we left the car, and up pops the google map where I am, and it starts using GPS. We went on a 1.5 mile loop, and it tracked us perfectly the entire time. It recorded the min/max altitude, it graphed the altitude changes along the path, and stored how long we took to make the trip, and how much of that time was spent moving, as well as the path we took.
The best of all was that it seemed to not use very much battery at all. Now if only it had the topo maps...
Also, as a side note, I found a cool way to store my contacts on the desktop as shortcuts (more than can actually fit the standard way). I found in the shortcut menu when you press and hold the desktop, if you click folders, you can click "New Folder". That will create a folder on your desktop, to which you can drag contacts into them. So now I have 3 folders on one of the desktop screens, family, friends, work. All I have to do is drill into the folder, select a contact, and call. This is probably already known, and people may prefer to do it other ways. But for me, this turns out to be much easier than working my way through the contacts list or favorites.
This is the best phone I have ever owned to date...nothing else even comes close.
