Please give me a review on the droid

I got a email from verizon to upgrade to the droid for 199$ even though my contract is 16 months out?

I know verizon does this but I wasn't very excited about the droid. I hate motorola, the durability of past motos cost them a customer. I love the Android OS though.

What's the durability of the droid in your opinion? What kinda battery life are you guys seeing? What about the screen? How bright is it compared to a iphone or Omnia?

You're help is appreciated!

There are a ton of thorough reviews on the web. From my experience, it's an excellent phone. THe battery life is really good. I use it for work and am on it alot during the day and it through the days on with charge left at the end of the day. Screen is beautiful and sharp. Phone seems very well built with tight tolerances. Doesn't seem easy to break. This is my first Android phone after being on palm for years then moving to winmo for the last 1.5 yrs. Android blows em both away.

Only complaint I have is I wish there was a way to keep the on screen buttons (back, menu, home, search) lit up longer when you're active on the phone. But honestly, that's the only gripe I have. Even the on screen keyboard works well. In fact, I use it more than I use the physical keyboard.

Re: Please give me a review on the droid

I've owned every WinMo phone Verizon has sold for probably the last 5 years - Samsung I730, WM Treo, I760, Mogul, Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2. I just moved from a Touch Pro 2 I flashed with a custom WM 6.5 ROM and tweaked to perfection. I can say without a doubt that this device trumps them all. It's not as polished in some ways compared to WM which is very mature and hackable but for an initial offering, it's damn good. And the potential for this platform is incredible, especially with the likes of Google putting their full weight behind it. In terms of the hardware and integration with the OS, it's very slick and fast. The keyboard is not as bad as some reviews say. I'd compare it to the Touch Pro but it's nowhere near as good as the keyboard on the Touch Pro 2, which had the best one I've ever used. But it's a tradeoff I gladly made. The camera is below average but the video is comparable to a Flip. The file sizes on the high quality means you can't email a high quality video that's longer than just a few seconds so you have to transfer them with USB. Updates to the OS will be pushed out over the air with the first one scheduled for December and then another one rumored for January. I think this device will rapidly pass anything Microsoft or RIM will be doing anytime soon, if it hasn't already. Maybe when WM 7 comes out and there are handsets with capacitive screens I'll start looking over the fence again but for me this is the new hotness.

Re: Please give me a review on the droid

I just want to say I have had this phone for over a week and I feel it is a great device. I have a 3g and 3gs Iphone and I thought both were good phones. This is the first phone that I really believe is alternative to I Phone. Not knocking them, I just really like this phone. I also have an Omina and it just was not good in a lot of ways. Tried several roms from here and they helped, never really was good on internet for me. Out the box this phone is fast and the internet is better than Iphone for me. Now that maybe because of network in my area not sure. Here is a list of some things I really like about this phone. Screen, Video, Internet, speed. It is in my belief worth a try. You can return if you don't like.

$199 is the normal 2-year contract price on Verizon Wireless' website. Yeah, yeah, it says "$299," but I don't buy it.

The point you're trying to make is moot. They are letting me out of my 2 year contract 16 months early if I buy this phone. Not a bad deal....if I want this phone.

I switched from the Samsung Omnia that I had running great thanks to blazingwolf and his cooked WM6.5 ROMs. I could not be happier... very impressed with the device and functionality.

Re: Please give me a review on the droid

This phone is amazing, i have not seen any slowdowns like i have with other phones, switching between tasks is almost instant, and smooth. The build quality of the phone is also impressive, nothing feels loose, everything is in place, its real solid piece of technology. Its like night and day for me, especially coming from the gimped TP.
