Re: Internet Sharing app?

we need to have root access to be able to install it, which has not been achieved yet, and from what it looks like may have to wait for the firmware update on the 11th of december

EDIT: Foot-in-mouth: pdanet will let you tether without root. http://junefabrics.com/

Exactly, I think some people have mentioned having to download some drivers from Motorola to make PDANet work properly, but it does work. I'll be testing it Monday when my Droid arrives.

any other alternatives? completely freeware? also android installable file would be ideal. any other tips on an android app that allows you to tether via usb?

as i said earlier, to be able to install other tethering apps, we need to have root access. PDAnet works for windows users, and im not sure how. wish i could figure it out ;)

Many reports that pdanet works on the Droid.
Just google "pdanet for android" and follow the install instructions. Assuming you have Windows.
I've read that people need the Moto drivers from here - so it wouldn't hurt to install these first:
http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/...008806b00aRCRD

I have Win7 and I followed the pdanet instructions but it failed installing the ADB driver (which is included in the pdanet install). But an ADB driver can be had by registering and getting the android sdk, but I still couldn't get pdanet to run and connect up to my Droid. But that's a Win7 issue, I believe.

I bet it wont take long for the Windows7 compatibility to catch up. Unfortunately this phone was being developed before the release of W7, but with W7 being as popular as it is you know they'll be scrambling to fix compatibility issues :). I may have to hold off on a new laptop purchase till they get everything ironed out though.

Re: Internet Sharing app?

I've been using it fulltime since the spring. This is about the only thing I've found that worked with Vista (I assume it works with Vista?) and not Win7 - I even got rid of my XP and Vista boot partitions. So now I'm debating going back to XP, or at least throw one of my XP images on here.
I use Win7 on my hometheater pc too - hd video/audio support, and dual hd display support, has significant improvements over Vista.

Has anyone gotten this to work yet? We are looking at these phones to replace HTC Diamond phones but we all use tethering and need this for our Windows 7 laptops. I understand that Verizon is wanting to charge 30$ a month for this? Any news is appreciated!

pdanet works fine with windows 7 via usb. I have pdanet 2.01 and haven't had any issues.

I couldn't get it to work with the previous version. Though there is now a newer version (2.11?) but kbman said that the dns seemed to be acting flakey on it. I had him use the opendns servers in his tcp properties for that connection, but it still was having trouble resolving certain sites. Not sure if he worked that out yet or not though, that was earlier today.

I just got pdaNet for Android working running on XP inside a virtual machine on my Mac. Unfortunately, the internet connection doesn't translate to the Mac side of things but this was the way that the WM version worked. Still looking for a wifi router app that doesn't require root access. Looks like Morose Media has an app in progress: http://androidwifirouter.com/

I installed pdanet the other night. At first it fussed at me for not getting the 64bit version, so I did. After that everything worked great. Right now I'm still doing the free trial but everything is working well so I may purchase the program. $30 once beats $30 a month any day.

Just an update, if anyone of you care! I got the Droid on Tuesday and LOVE it to so much! I installed pdanet and it works great! I came from an omnia and this phone is great compared to that one!

I need to add a VZW line and am comptemplating the Droid. The June Fabrics folk are great at making the PDA Net work with most any Windows based PC.

I also have a MacBook and would like to know from current Droid users, will the Droid do wifi sharing via Bluetooth? This is a good solution with WM based phones, just not sure it will work with the Droid.

Thanks in advance.

Bump.
I have pdanet installed, currently I have a data plan(phone) but do I have to have a tethering plan? I just don't get slapped with extra charges.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mine was getting bad at disconnecting, so I went to the website and found an update that fixed it. It also added the option to tether BT but I havent tried that.
