ringtone storage

so I creatd a "media....audio.......alarms, notifications & rings" folders on the sd card for storing alarms, rings & notifications audio files as I saw on here somewhere, but these files are not available on the ringtones menu. Where do they have to be installed in order to see them on the menu, and where do downloaded ringtones get stored, like from Mabilo, etc?
