Helix Launcher - Awesome new Home Replacement (requires root)
Check it out here. (Be sure to use the latest version)
Very nice. -4 spots to put shortcuts across the bottom bar -app drawer is replaced with a NexusOne-esque launcher icon. -supports interactive live wallpapers. -supports from 1 to 7 screens. VERY NICE. I can't recommend enough. Been using it for a couple days now with no force closes. EDIT: Apparently it does cause issues with non-rooted phones as it shares an id with the default launcher app and changing to 5 or 7 screens creates an issue as it modifies the data file that both use. This creates force closes and issues with Astro.

Re: Helix Launcher - Awesome new Home Replacement (doesn't require root)
Seang, I updated my post. The general consensus is that this thing is solid. I'd be curious to know the circumstances surrounding your FC.
I had one soft FC where I selected 'wait' upon bootup after installing a new kernel as my SetCPU widget and app needed to be refreshed. Outside of that it's been gold. I am running an ESE53 2.1 rom built from boostdscoob's Dominator ROM on Jake's 1.2Ghz kernel. |

Re: Helix Launcher - Awesome new Home Replacement (doesn't require root)
We have a 2.0.1 Verizon Wireless Motorola Driod, in UNrooted form, and when I attempted to download the files (either of 'em...) to my laptop - it shows that I get the whole file, but that upon transferring to my phone - it doesn't provide the option do do so. In fact, it shows NOTHING in the file summary. When I attempt to download it directly to the device, I get the file to copy, fine (?!) but, when I try and install either the 1.1 or the 1.0 versions, I get the following message:
PARSE ERROR There is a problem parsing the package.

Re: Helix Launcher - Awesome new Home Replacement, perhaps - IF you could get it!
UPDATE: Never mind. After searching for images of what the screen looked like, at least, and was unable to find same (let alone be successful enough to simply download AND install the program) - I have opted to go with the VERY elegant and highly loaded clean HOME++ launcher! Easy to use and customize.

Re: Helix Launcher - Awesome new Home Replacement (doesn't require root)
Image911, yeah I was aware of the issues with non-rooted droids and modified my original post but couldn't change the thread title. I've sent a PM to a mod to have that changed not to waste anyone elses time.
AdamZ is putting this in his rom... it's also in the cyanogen rom port. I have still not had a force close. My issue with the 'wait' error turned out to be related to having setCPU set 'on Boot' then changing the kernel. I guess I should only recommend this to people on ESE53 Roms at the moment. But it's amazing on this ROM. EDIT: Here's a screenshot. Last edited by banden; 03-14-2010 at 06:26 PM. |

Re: Helix Launcher - Awesome new Home Replacement (doesn't require root)
I take your word for it, but without being able to actually see it in action, it's hard to imagine... if you know what I mean. Anyway, if it's anything like HOME++ then it surely has great promise and much to offer!

1.2a was just released and now works with bettercut and doesn't revert back to stock icons when drag them into the app bar
