Which rom to use?

Hi all. Have not been on here since i had my HTC apache LOL. Anyways i have gone through tons of phones and now am using a moto droid. I wanted to see how many people are using custom roms and which ones?? Ive been thinking about doing this just for fun and to get better performance. (not saying the phone is slow or anything) Another question would be do i have to root the phone first than install the rom?? please let me know....

p.s. i installed a custom rom on my old htc phone but that seemed to be easier than the droid will be.

Re: Which rom to use?

Well sholes team has an all in one app for 5 bucks that roots, installs backup application and installs one of the fastest roms out there for $5 on the market. It's called "SholesMod Updater".

It will easily save you a couple hours... but it will also prevent you from learning what goes into rooting, backing up, and modding your phone. (Edit: it's now free if you download it from sholes.info directly.)

Many of us are using the Smoked Glass Mod by AdamZ at alldroid.com

Re: Which rom to use?

I'm using the sholes mod updater, it worked pretty good. It took a couple flashes to get it where I wanted. Running at 800mhz fine trying 1ghz now. I didn't have the time to sit down and educate myself on the proper way to do it. I wish I had though the sholes rom seems to be up there with the droid kinda like the cyanogen mod on the g1. I'm going to go back and do it again. I'll post some good in depth guides I found in the morning and save you some googling.

800Mhz, everything else seems to get it too warm for my comfort.

Re: Which rom to use?

alright sounds good.....i believe mine is set around the same speed. shows the better is at like 28 or 29celcius

another quick question. once you've rooted and installed a custom rom can you go back to the stock rom? Like right now i have sholesmod. If the offical 2.1 were to come out could i download it without any problems??
