How do you modify your wifi speed Droid

It sems that when on wifi connection I am limited to speeds ofthe 3g network. My home wifi speed on my laptop is well over 12 mbps best I can get on my droid is 2mbps. Is there a hidden setting somewhere to unlimit the wifi speed when on wifi and even the 3g network if possible?
