Must Have DroidX Applications

I have ordered my X and am patiently waiting for it. Coming from WM TP2, this is my first Android device.

For those of you who have favorite top 10 droid apps, please post them here. Normally, I would start off the thread with my picks, but I have none yet

Re: Must Have DroidX Applications

Hi. I too just moved from the TP2 to the DX. I is my first android phone as well. I don't have 10 favorites but these are the ones I wanted most.

Rock Player: I loved CorePlayer for playing Divx movies & flash video. The DX's screen is WAY better.
Slacker Radio: My favorite internet radio

I'm still trying out some other apps & I recommend that you do the same. The marketplace has a ton of 'em.

Re: Must Have DroidX Applications

we have a lot in common, i too dropped my tp2 for the Droid X (my 1st android phone) and i am absolutely loving it. Seems like everything is just snappy and works. These may not be the best apps out there but its ones that i got so far to fit my needs

1. Digital Clock widget (for my homescreen...i am just use to seeing the time at all time)
2. Convertpad
3. Google earth (very cool to actually have on a phone)
4. Google sky
5. Where is my droid (app that allows you to txt you phone using another device if its lost and on silent. The txt will chnage it too full ringer volume and let it ring so u can find your phone)
6. Retro Radio (allows me to listen to any shoutcast station)
7. Compass (just cause its got the magnetic thing)
8. Shopsavvy

Re: Must Have DroidX Applications

#1 Sling Mobile

#2 Sirius Radio (even though my TP2 app was way better)

#3 Digital clock/weather widget that looks like sense 2.5

& a bunch now I don't remember.

Anyone try Launcher Pro yet? If so, please let us know what you think. So far, this looks like the first app I will try once my X arrives.

I too left WM yesterday for the first time in 4 years. first app I installed was slingplayer. second was Mortplayer. Awesome for podcasts.

Lots of former TP2 players here. Now if we could only get Mighty Mike over to the X!

I have notice people rave about this slingplayer. i went to check it out and it seems like you have to pay like a $170 for the hardware ("dvr box type thing") for the app even to work. Is that really worth it. Is this app all that?

No it's not if you don't have the hardware already.

Re: Must Have DroidX Applications

Haha Same here, I've been with WM since WM2003, so almost 6 years now

1) Advanced Task Killer (Free)
Allows you to easily view, switch between, and kill background apps to free up memory and save battery.

2) DroidLight Flashlight (Free)
Uses the Camera Flash as a flashlight

3) Epocrated (Free)
Great for med students, doctors, and pharmacists. Has searchable drugs, pill pictures, interactions, symptoms, dosage, etc.

4) eWallet (Free trial, costs $20 I believe, but they let you use it on your PC, WM, iPhone, RIM, and Android)
256-bit encryption so you can store your credit cards, passwords, other cards and info. Very user-friendly and nice graphical interface.
http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/ew/ewallet.php
The only downside is that the version for Android is just a viewer, so you will have to edit your info on your PC then transfer it. They are working on a full version for Android...

5) If you cant get ewallet, then B-Folders is good too:

Yes, you have to buy & setup the hardware' but after that using it is totally free.

I refused to buy an Android phone until Sling Mobile for Android became available. Sling is one of my most used apps & IMHO is worth every penny.

Using it and loving it, works great on the X. The Moto widgets don't really work with it, but that's minor imo.

jmorton10,

What Digital Clock and Weather widget(s) did you
come across to resemble Sense 2.5?

Much Thanks in advance.

All the Best!

Beautiful Widgets & 'Weather & Toggle' Widgets are both paid apps (less than $2.00) that do a great job of looking like sense and also have a ton of free skins to look like almost anything.
'Fancy Widget' is a free one that looks just like sense paddle clock & gps based weather. It's been forced off the market by HTC, but is still floating around via torrent I hear.

Regarding the cost of a slingplayer setup, I got a Solo of Craigslist for fifty bucks. That makes it 80 bucks to get up and running. Don't forget you can use it from any computer too. Anyone with a cummute should look into it.

Re: Must Have DroidX Applications

One thing I don't like about the home screens is the rigid 4x4 grid. I was primarily a MobileShell user under WinMo, and the layouts were very free-form. Allowed a lot of creativity in design. I've found a few things that get me close to this:

More Icons:
http://www.ree-yees.com/node/40
Puts 4 Icons into a 1x1 grid. Has several widgets that will allow you to put up to 16 icons/toggles into a 4x1 (complete row) space.

Launch-X
http://android.yuvalsharon.net/launchx.php
I like the look of this one better than More Icons, but I had already purchased More Icons. I might still buy this one. More Icons has system toggles (bluetooth, Wifi, etc) that Launch-X doesn't appear to support. Launch-X does support some really cool multiple page options and layouts.

Both can be found in the market.

When I get real fancy, I will figure out how to post QR codes to these things :)

Fancy Widget:
As I indicated earlier, this is a Sense Clock clone. I like it a lot. HTC has asked for it to be taken down, but I think it's still available for a limited time. I found a QR code for it:

http://cdn.androidcommunity.com/wp-c...-widget-qr.png

Scan this with your barcode app and it should take you to the marketplace entry for it.

No, I think I had to download it from the marketplace. I ended up with two. ShopSavvy and one just called BarcodeScanner.

I use BarcodeScanner for QR codes, etc. Don't know if ShopSavvy does those or not, but it feels more price-check oriented, so I haven't tried.

I just tried this with both of my scanners. BarcodeScanner worked fine. ShopSavvy gave me the network error, but when I hit 'Retry' it went to the item just fine.

Beautiful Widgets is a must for all those TP2 converts. Many options for the clock and weather.

Also, check out "Backgrounds" and "Flikie Wallpaper" for all your wallpaper needs.

I am new to android so sorry if these apps are "old news" but i just got two that i thought was pretty cool. The first is called bump. It allows you to exchange contact, photos or even apps with someone else by just bumping there phone. The second is key ring. Allows you to create digital version of your coupon or credit cards for example your price chopper card.
