GPS on Sprint Touch

I've been looking all over these forums to find a way to get my GPS to work, but have not been able to do so. I have the newest official ROM that supposedly has GPS (3.03.651.4). However, if I use Google Maps, (or Live Search, or anything else) it doesn't seem to pick up any satellites, no matter how long I wait for it. I don't have the data plan, but I am trying it when I am connected to my computer with an internet connection, so my Touch has an internet connection. Do I need to unlock the GPS after I've update to the official ROM? Or is there anything else I need to do?

No you do not need to unlock after the official update...You may need to do a search for a GPS fix or you may need to download a GPS Primer http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=220531 post 16

Make sure you are set to COM4 Star>Settings>System>external GPS...

I tried to do that AstroGPS thing with the Yahoo Go, and it seemed to do something different, but it just stays at "Updating location..." forever. In my settings for external GPS I have under program: "Com4", under hardware I have GPS hardware port: "(none)", and Baud rate: "4800".
For "GPS fix" do you mean like a "patch" or having my GPS lock?

Ok, so I got it working by following the thread here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36377
It takes about a minute or two to get locked, but that's ok. Thanks for all the help. So now that I have it working... does anyone know where I can find an application that uses GPS but does not need the internet? Preferably free...

Actually, one more question...it seems that the GPS needs the internet to lock on initially. Is this accurate or just coincidence?

I use verizon I have all my data blocked and I can still use the GPS. there is a free GPS navigation software that you can use here http://www.amazegps.com/welcome.php but I think it uses data. i don't know how well it works because I use Igo8 which doesn't use data ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Vogue/Users/AMAEL/

If you are running a Internet dependent program such as Live Search or Sprint Nav...But if you have Tom Tom or something to its equivalent running on your device with maps installed on your storage card then you do not need a data connection to use your GPS!!!Also the program listed above"Amaze" is a very good program.
