HTC Touch questions

Happy new year to all...

I have family in France, and managed to get an "old" HTC Touch from my step dad (he moved on to a blackberry)... after calling the french Provider to get the unlock code, my AT&T sim card worked fine... however, the keyboard and all the applications are in french, and the ROM is old... so here are my questions:

- can I simply install the latest US ROM update on top of the french version? will that work OK?

- when I plug the HTC on my laptop running XP, it tells me "Generic RNDIS" found, but doesn't find the driver automatically... I went on HTC's website, but could not find a driver for it... is there a link somewhere?

- again, the HTC US site is not very helpful, and I could not find any sync application to download... what's my best option to sync the HTC to my laptop, to backup my data?

Nevermind on the driver and sync applications... I downloaded activesync and it took care of everything.

My only question is about the French vs US Windows Mobile... can I install the US version over the french one and be fine?

You may wanna look here because this site is mostly CDMA and since your phone is GSM there will be a larger pool of knowledge for you to swim through :http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=374

This looks more complicated than I thought... I just got off the phone with HTC customer service and the guy had no clue... their website won't let me download the latest ROM anyway (my serial number is not valid for HTC Touch (GSM)... looks like I may have to deal with the french applications and azerty keyboard! since this was windows based I thought the hacks would be easy to install! ya right!
