General GPS operation questions...

If you want to use GPS, you have to update your RADIO to 3.42.30 or 3.42.50.

Here what I installed (in order):
1) Vogue_unlocker_MFG_2.31.exe
2) RUU_Vogue_BM_WWE_3.09.666.1_Radio3.42.50_Ship.exe
3) Dette 2D v2.3 Diamond Edition
4) dcd_Verizon_Carrier_20081031.cab

That's similar to what I did, but...

Updated radio using the official HTC Alltel updated, which takes the radio to the 3.42 version.

Unlocked using Imcokeman's unlocker.

Flashed to new ROM (Conflip's Alltel ROM) since I'm with Alltel.

Ran the RAR file for the registry edits for Alltel GPS.

I cannot get my GPS back up and running. I have an Alltel Touch with the updated ROM radio is 3.42. I used Google Maps for 2 months with locks within 10 seconds. I also installed Alltel Navigation Trial, once the trial expired I cannot connect to any satillites. I installed Amaze Nav to see if I could connect and I could not. Does any one know if Valhalla will fix this issue? I am a newbie and need assistance. Any assistance or suggestions to get me up and running is greatly appreciated? Thanks!!

Scott, I would suggest uninstalling Alltel Nav first. Then I would check your gps settings in your registry. Also read this thread if you follow the directions I bet your gps will start to work again. I'm guessing that Alltel Nav has changed your gps registry settings. But thats just a guess. Do the gps fix in that thread and you'll be ok.

Got GPS working easily on my XV6900 with the new official Verizon wm6.1 ROM and the Vahalla GPS cab. Not a single problem so far. As a matter of fact this locks on sat(s) about 3 times faster then my Garmin hand held and even locks in 20 sec while in my basement as I type now!

Questions:

1. I see the sats(s) so I'll assume this is true GPS and not some "magic" with the cell phone towers, correct? (I only ask because I'm blown away by the lock time and the fact I'm in the basement and my Garmin barely works on a cloudy day!)

2. if I do not start any software (say Google Maps) to call to the GPS does it in fact stay off and not consume my battery? Or does the GPS need to turned on/off somewhere in the phone config that I have not found yet? (again I'm amazed at the lock speed and cannot believe that the GPS is not already running before the Google Map calls for it).

3. What other software does anyone recommend for interactive directions or fun?

2. Its off, until you initiate it. You can set a sound for connect/disconnect in your settings if you want confirmation. Just go to Start/Settings/Sounds and Notifications/Notifications Tab. Select Event-- Connection established/Connection disconnected and apply a sound for confirmation.

3. Check my post #321 on the Update thread for all the ones I have been using. All working great.

After this is done, can you flash back to the "leaked/Official 6.1" Verizon rom with 3.37 radio without bricking the phone? (Just in case if you have to return the phone to verizon)
