May be the cable, lotherius. I have had that problem before, try a different one and see if that helps.

Re: Tethering Touch with WM6.1. Step by Step instructions

Why install a cab or 3 and take up space? Just do a simple reg edit to get ICS working.

"Copy and pasted from a old post"

InternetSharing WM 6.0:
Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Then Delete "Extension"="rilphone.dll"
then change "MaxCMCon.... from 1 to 0..
MaxCMCon might be 0 already if so its cool.

InternetSharing WM 6.1:
Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Then Delete "Extension"="rilphone.dll"
After that edit the dial "Phone as Modem" to "Sprint PCS"
MaxCMCon will already be 0.

Re: Tethering Touch with WM6.1. Step by Step instructions

I just wanted to jump in just retyped the directions (with an update on the .DLL name).

Only two things are needed:

1. Delete [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing] "Extension"="rilphone.dll" (Note: it might be called "isext.dll" in newer Sprint builds, that's what I had. It's the same thing as rilphone...)

2. Change the value of the "ForceCellConnection" key in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings] to "Sprint PCS" from "Phone as Modem".

Worked like a charm.

i noticed that the connect icon is greyed out on the touch pro, therefore the ICS patch does not work. Does anyone know how to work around this without have to us a custom rom, or will regedit work for that? thanks for the help!
I still have my mogul that i switched back to because i cant get it done on the Touch Pro.

2)Minimize the browser
3)Open up Internet Sharing in your programs folder on your phone
4) Choose USB under PC Connection
5)Hit connect (bottom left)

7)Connect your USB cable to your phone & PC
8)You should momentarily see two little computers connecting next to the clock in your taskbar on your PC
9)Open up your browser on your PC and BAM!

HERES MY PROBLEM:
Everything works for me from Steps 1-8.
I actually connect to the ROUTER...but not the INTERNET.

Instead of saying "Access: Local and Internet"
it just says "Access Local"

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong...or how to get around this issue?

I have the HTC Vogue from alltel, and I came across the same "Greyed Out" connect button as the poster above. Even though i'm having no issues with my active sync, it states that it is disconnected for internet sharing. Anyone have a solution for this?

Anyone know what I should do to make my rom tethering safe for Bell Mobility? I built a rom using the ppckitchen and then went to these registries and did not find them. I don't know if the rom is tethering safe and what Bell uses to detect tethering. Has anyone made any registry edits to make it tethering safe with Bell Mobility?

Our problems are not exactly the same.
MY PROBLEM is I get the Phone to connect to the Router.....BUT NOT TO THE INTERNET.
It says Access: LOCAL only.
Normally when Im connected to the Internet....It usually shows at the bottom of the Screen THE TWO COMPUTERS WITH THE GLOBE.

I need help from ppl who have had SUCCESS connecting to the Internet to tell me:
A) If they have experienced a Similar Problem
and
B) What to do to get around it

Re: Tethering Touch with WM6.1. Step by Step instructions

Congrats GTbanna...it took me a lil while to get online myself.

HERE IS MY CURRENT PROBLEM WITH TETHERING:

I get bumped offline. Alot.
Usually like every 10-15 mins.
Sometimes I'm lucky and I can stay connected to the internet for like 20 mins.
I HAVE NEVER STAYED CONNECTED FOR LIKE AN HOUR STRAIGHT.

The Weird thing is when I get disconnected...MY NETWORK ICON AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN STILL SHOWS ME AS CONNECTED!
The 2 Computers with the Globe stay on...but all my Page will go off line.

MY QUESTIONS

1.) Is that a Common problem that others have experienced?
Do I just have to accept as a by product of tethering that I will be Bumped offline every 15 mins?
Or
2) Is there an easy solution to this problem...Something I can fix easily.

(I'm using the Regular ROM the Touch came with. I downloaded the "Internet Fix" Cab..........and I'm tethering to my Laptop which uses Windows Vista)

Hi: You can ignore my earlier message. I simply keyed in the attachment's url in the browser on my phone and was able to download and install the cab file. It did the trick and I'm now able to connect my pc to the internet via the phone. Pretty nifty. Thanks for the insight. Regards, EM

Hello for those with the "greyed out" Connect button-
I found this to resolve the issue after searching around for several days:

My "fix" was to do the following... I haven't had any problems with it so far...

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\InternetShari ng]

Delete The Following Key: "LastCellConnection"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings]

Delete The Following Key: "ForceCellConnection"

Of course it is always recommended to backup your the REG keys prior to deleting!

Re: Tethering Touch with WM6.1. Step by Step instructions

Hey I got a solution to the Local only HTC Touch Vouge from Sprint(not to be confused with the Verizon phone of same name different model) issue. You have to manually put the proxy settings on your browser as the phone is obviously not handling the settings for this properly. If somebody has a patch for this please post it but otherwise my tethering works. In IE just go to your internet options> connections tab> Lan Settings button > cehck the use proxy and enter wap.metropcs.net and 3128 for the port and BAM internet. Similar works for Mozilla as well. I felt stupid too.](*,)

Using CERegEditor I navigate to the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing] and I try deleting the string "Extension"="isext.dll" but it gives me an error "Cannot delete value. Try again."
Is there a trick to doing this?
Thanks.

Update. Unlocking the registry did the trick. Now Internet Sharing is working. Thanks a lot guys.

Re: Tethering Touch with WM6.1. Step by Step instructions

I was able to get this to work via a cab file. However, every time I power on/off the device, the registry got reset back to its original value.

What do I need to do to keep it permanent? I have Sprint TP2.

Re: Tethering Touch with WM6.1. Step by Step instructions

Try using Phm regeditor to make the reg edits and see if they stick. You may need to install Shaggylive's CM Killer because like the new TP rom the CM Guardian file that runs at startup may be resetting those reg values. Here's a link to CM Killer :http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1203597

Nothing work. PHM regeditor, Cab file hack or CM Killer.

For the TP2 go to Mighty Mike's thread to get the ICS cab here:http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...ring+touch+pro Or go to the Touch Pro 2 Cleanup Thread and install those tweaks to get tethering going.

any one have a way to do this on Bell Phones??! the original rom from bell comes with internet connection sharing option but i feel like if i use it im gonna get charged.. also with this registry fix..i guess you dont need pdanet?

horndoctor 10-28-2009 09:37 PM

Re: Tethering Touch with WM6.1. Step by Step instructions

No, download and use PHMregeditor to make the regedits. Do the edits in the post I linked you to and substitute Bell Network(or whatever they call it) where it says SprintPCS. Then you can use Internet Sharing.

Okay, go to sounds and notifications and navigate to connection established notification. Make sure the box is checked to show message on screen.
Then click ok and go back to your today screen. Then push and hold the red end key to turn off your radio. Wait a min. Then push and hold the end key again to turn radio back on.
Then start your phone's browser like opera, IE, or skyfire and note what it says in the bubble. That is what the forcecellconnection should be set to. :)
