Re: Poor-Man's Data plan?
Depending on which ROM you flashed there is most likely a program called 'Internet Connect Sharing' or 'ICS' in the program menu.
Connect your usb cable, start the ICS progam and choose connect.

Re: Poor-Man's Data plan?
The way I'm asking though is to do this without a PC.
Take this for example: I need to visit a webpage and no computers are nearby, Is it possible to use the phone's own internal modem (Analog) to provide the data connection (I.E 56K dialup) without tethering or any PC involvement. In all essence, instead of using verizon's data, instead dial-up a 56K Modem, connect, and use that as a data carrier. |

Re: Poor-Man's Data plan?
Edit: NEVERMIND. You don't want to tether. You can no longer use this function you are describing AFAIK. It was called Quick to Net, ie circuit switched data and I believe they are charging for it now. Someone correct me though if I'm wrong.
-Go to phone screen. -##778, Send. -Edit. -000000 -View Info, Security. -Change "S.IP DUN User name" from XXXXXXXXXX@dun.vzw3g.com to XXXXXXXXXX@vzw3g.com -View Info, M.IP Default Profile. -Change "DUN NAI" from XXXXXXXXXX@dun.vzw3g.com to XXXXXXXXXX@vzw3g.com (XXXXXXXXXX is your VZW mobile number) -Menu, OK. -OK to soft reset. This method works whether you have flashed to a custom ROM or if you are on stock ROM, ie. using Modem Link or Internet Connection Sharing. Last edited by baaadandy; 09-04-2008 at 08:10 PM. |

Re: Poor-Man's Data plan?
I was doing something like Quick to Net as the OP was describing on my last WM device (VZ 6700) however it was kind of a nightmare. I used www.freedialup.com or something like that and it worked about 25% of the time and then I got big bills from VZ for data use. I denied the data usage to customer service and they didn't know what I was doing so they wiped the charges but it wasn't a very good solution.
