Alltel HTC Touch getting 6.1 soon
 

I just called Alltel and asked about the WM 6.1 upgrade and they told me it was supposed to be out on Monday, but was delayed. He thinks it was delayed as they didn't get their training on 6.1 until this week. I also checked HTC's site and the old upgrade that enables REV A is gone...

I would expect this to be out very soon.

No, the upgrade Alltel released a few months back was mainly a Radio upgrade so REV A would work. At the time WM 6.1 was not yet out.
If you look at Sprint, they waited for 6.1 to come out and then soon after released an update that upgraded the radios for REV A and installed 6.1.
Any 6.1 on the Alltel Touch as of now are not official releases, and were put together by some hardworking people that you can find using this forum.

I am waiting on this sooooo bad. I just got my touch. I just updated it to the Rev A Version.

i wont believe anything about this update till i see it. i really don't think it will be out anytime soon. all the info about it and the rumors are just so sketchy.

This is really getting stupid. It has been 3 weeks now, maybe longer, since they've removed the software download on their site.

The post was also from August 13th and said that it would possibly be out by months end (August) with the possibility of being pushed back a week or so. It is now September 4th so I guess it could possibly be released today or tomorrow? Or next week.

I still think it's bull**** that it takes 5 weeks, if not longer, to fix a bluetooth problem. It just comes off as though it's not a priority for them, or maybe it's just me :-k

I heard they were being trained also on the 6800 rom update this week. The reason I have experienced for the needed upgraded rom was to solve the bugs and problems, like having the phone not ring or only ring once while in standby and or immediate voicemail transfer. Very frustrating to hear a voicemail tone when the phone doesn't even ring!! HTC has admitted to problems with the ROMS, thats why they were pulled a while back (At least the alltel versions I am aware of). Seems like both versions (roms for touch and 6800) should be out soon and to WM6.1 Lets hope they get it right this time??

yeah, I just didn't see it and now at least I know they have or had a reason 3 weeks ago.
I work in a corporate environment and really find it hard to believe they are just doing this for sh*ts and giggles. There has to be something going on. The rep I talked to said it was supposed to be out last Monday (Aug 25th) but delayed as not all the tech people were trained on it. Which makes sense, but makes me think they would have though about that before having a planned release date.
Maybe after fixing issues they have to start the testing process all over again,... checking for new conflicts... I am not making excuses at all for Alltel. They were the first to have REV A and you would think would have had this update out in record time too. How different are the same CMDA phones from carrier to carrier anyway? The guys on this site make their own ROMs hacked from others and work really well. Maybe Alltel should hire them... it would not only be working and released, but on all HTC phones, not just the touch phones,.. I bet in 7 hours depending on time zones.
Does any body know for sure if the 6.1 Alltel ROM will also have a working GPS. I asked the rep about that too, and he had no idea about any GPS for the touch. $#&@! Hopfully they are just kept out of the loop, but that may just be wish ful thinking.

this monday was Holiday in USA for that they did not relase it. But this just me.

how about Bell New Rom! have you try it yet? its good if not even the best Rom out (for now)

Your right. If that guy really does work for Alltel and does the training like he said he does, then it should have the GPS update as he says. If that is true it would appear that training has really not been around to all the techs at Alltel, and probibly why they delayed posting it. That makes complete sense but also p*sses me off. They should have at least heard rumer of GPS on the Touch since Sprint put it on their's. I don't know if its ignorance or just Borg like... They said not to tell, so it doesn't exist, even though tomarrow, the world will know, and our competitors already have it.
Sorry for this rant, just having other issues with refurb Touches I have been getting from Alltel... as it has nothing to do with the subject of update 6.1, or GPS, I will post it else where and edit this post with a link just so its easy to find for anyone who cares.

WOW! its 9/08 and this thing was supposed to be out like a week ago, i would just forget about it the diamond will prob be out before it.

Is it just me, or is the Alltel HTC Touch site where the 6.1 upgrade should be(!) messed up? the links are vertical and not the pictures as they once were? I am using Firefox so it may just be me, but as Firefox is the only browser I use and it was right yesterday, I really don't think it is. Maybe they tried adding the upgrade and messed it up? I have refreshed the page a few times and it still has issues.
Waiting for 6.1 is really starting to p*ss me off. I was forcing my self to be patient before but now this delay is just getting ridicules. At the very least they should announce they it will be out soon and why they have delayed it this long. If they did that I wouldn't be so frustrated about it.

I just went back to the page and it appears ok now... not sure if it was my browser or the HTC web guys playing around.

Just called Alltel. Girl said in the system it shows no release date. But she has heard rumors of it being,... get this,.. drum role please.... and I quote,....
"soon". take from it as you will, but from the sounds of it, it will be released "soon",...
And just to make this information even more juicy, she said it was supposed to be released back in,... April. I think some one is sitting on their hands, with BOTH thumbs up their bu*t. At least I know I can type HTML faster to post a link for a download then these guys can as its been 5 months since April. I think the plan is to release the upgrade after the warranty on our touches have ran out so when we upgrade the phone, it will brick and we will be forced to buy a new phone.

Yeah, I definitely want that phone. Probably won't even be out for another year, that is, if it comes to the US at all. I'd just like an Alltel Diamond.

Anyway, I have a challenge for you, just because I can't do it right now because I'm in a college class lol. Call Alltel again, just so you talk to someone different and get a different answer/opinion. And then call HTC a couple times and ask the same questions and then report back with the results!

That's funny because I was bored at work yesterday and called Alltel also to inquire about the release of 6.1. The girl I talked to wanted to know where I heard about 6.1 for Alltel, so I told her from various websites and from the windows mobile website. She put me on hold for a few min, came back and said exactly the same thing.....'soon'. ](*,) Didn't have a specific date or anything but that it is a work-in-progress. Wonder if we talked to the same girl??? lol

are you talking to the customer rep. or tech support? also advanced tech support is going to be the one to talk to and they will have a lot better answer about the update.

I have no idea what I just did. I just did cokemans unlocker. and was not able to successfully unlock it. but it placed a blank rom or something on my phone. I then experiemented and updated my alltel phone with the sprint rom for the website 6.1. It is installing now successfully and not bricking. I will try to send MMS and see if my radio and everything still works. I hope I now have 6.1 with gps and rev A. cross fingers guys.

After my last post I reamed HTC last week on the phone. Finally demanded and got a supervisor to take my call. Asked what the **** is up. After twenty minutes he finally said they dont like to admit having software issues because who would want to purchase a phone with issues. The new rom with 6.1 was sent to Alltel for testing only to have a bluetooth issue. Sent back to HTC, and once again they are trying to fix the rom. If it again passes, then it will be released. I am so tired of this same bs.

how about you release the rom and in THIS ROM HAS BROKEN BLUETOOTH, but does have wm6.1 and gps support. If you find that these features overweight the bluetooth issue then please feel free to upgrade. We will also be keeping a completely working wm6 with Rev A rom avalilable F in business ppl get a brain!

I really do understand that, and believe the new ROM with issues should be for lack of a better word, "leaked". But most people are STUP*D! Yes, its true, and I am sorry if I hurt your feelings. But its true. If they release this through the normal way with bad bluetooth the dumb ones will get it and complain and then Alltel will say I told you so, and them will have to waste alot of money to make them happy or piss off many customers. And in the end just showing approval for stupid people so they will stupid again else where. Even in college my Profs would say or agree with the idea "users are losers". Meaning if you make write a program some user will go against every natural impulse and some how break it. Lots of testing before release.
WE could handle these issues and accept them and just be happy it was released. People in this Forum I bet would even FIX the problems in a few days. If companys were smart they would use this type of community of techs and leak the ROM so people who will actually try to break it can, and take advantage of the fact they may also fix it. All they will have to do is have a few spys watching the forums to find the ideas for fixes and see how it works back in the lab. If it really is "just" bluetooth, I can live with out it and use a wire for a few weeks as it would get fixed and released faster. Maybe they should even give out prizes for such fixes. It still would save them a lot of money not paying for their salary, benefits, tools, and the taxes that a company has to pay just to have you work for them. This isn't just an Alltel thing but an every company thing. I am just not sure how, other CDMA carriers bluetooth work fine and HTC can't get Alltels to work.

That's exactly right. Other carriers have 6.1, GPS, and working Bluetooth on the SAME hardware. Only things that are different are the few carrier specific apps. It just doesn't add up?????

guys, I really still do not understand whey all this about! ("you most have Alltel ROM") I'm with Virzon and I'm using Bell ROM, everything work good with out any problem with Vrizon network or even with BT. whey not using new release of ROM from Bell or what ever you want that has been update it with all the fix issues that has been known!

I decided not to wait anymore. I found this thread a while back and am currently running this custom Alltel 6.1 ROM and have nothing but good things to say about it. It's nothing extreme, it's pretty much like the oem rom with a few minor tweaks. I would recommend it to anyone for now until the official one comes on. And yes, my GPS works flawlessly now and I have 6.1!! For a custom rom, I highly recommend this one. See the link below.

Yes, but that ROM has some major roaming issues right now that conflipper knows about and is trying to fix. I'm in roaming areas a lot of the time and simply cannot use this rom because of that.
