Edit xml files inside the \Windows\ folder without leaving the phone?
I'm trying to make edits to the XML files in \Winows\ (ql_skin_p and ql_skin_l) that define the layout, icons, and associated apps to launch for the quick launcher app on the Touch home screen.
In the past I've transferred these files to a PC via something like SOTI, edited them on the PC, and then copied them back over the old ones on the phone, soft reset, and voila... I'd like to be able to make changes without leaving the phone. I tried a simple notepad app on the phone, but it's file->open browser won't even browse to the \Windows\ folder. I also tried using the default File Explorer on the phone to copy/past the xml files into an area where I could see/open/edit them using the notepad app, then copy/paste them back over the originals- after soft resetting the files reverted to their original ROM state (older even then the way I had them before trying this new method)! Any ideas on how to make changes to system (text) files on the phone without having to involve external connections? |
Re: Edit xml files inside the \Windows\ folder without leaving the phone?
iirc the standard filemanager doesnt overwrite ROM files that well, it is usually suggested to use Total Commander, or Resco Exploere etc to overwrite ROM files.. as far as editing them in place, phm Notepad might work but I've had issues with it and UNIX vs windows text formatting. I use Resco's built-in editor for editing things on the phone these days. Same as some registry edits, after you make changes, you may need to wait a few minutes before resetting... sometimes takes a bit to "settle in" or something....
I will try to edit those xml's on myphone and let you know how it goes.. EW update -- forgot I don't have Resco on this ROM. Used total commander however to edit a XML file in windows directory, waited about 1min, reset and the edits are still in place. Couldnt find the files you mentioned however, so i edited QD_images.xml ( or something close to that ) |
