Re: Need some help with icons

omarnova: ...place it on the launcher on the today screen...

Assuming you have Touch and that you're referring to the Quick Launcher, called OperatorLauncherPlu... in Today Screen Items, you'll need to modify \Windows\ql_skin_l.xml and/or ql_skin_p.xml by using something like NotePad on desktop PC. Hopefully, your desired icon has the correct BMP format, complete with mask. If not, maybe somebody can help with getting it right? (Wish I could!)

TMZ: ...I have tdlauncher...

Ohhh, that does my heart good because maybe I had something to do with your using tdL, just as you've had alot to do with much of what I'm using in my Touch. It's easy to have any icon with tdL, as long as you can find the icon you like within an EXE or DLL file on your device. I used rViewer to locate a few possibilities. Here's how they look on white background:

Even the YouTube icon looks fairly acceptable on white. But on Today Screen with dark background, it looks awful, maybe like a birthday cupcake or multi-wick cherrybomb:

The last 4 icons are all linked to youtubeplay.exe by way of LNK shortcut files (for this experiment, will go back to more useful things soon), using tdLaunch. All you have to do is create a shortcut with your favorite file browser. Using my fave, GS Finder Plus, I tap and hold on youtubeplay.exe and then tap Shortdut in the pop-up menu. Using WM File Explorer, Navigate to \Program Files\youtubeplay and then tap and hold youtubeplay.exe (with the ugly icon, not the DLL with generic MS icon). Tap Copy in popup menu. You can now create a shortcut by tapping:

Menu > Edit > Paste Shortcut.

Using the very handy 'OpenWith' plugin for File Explorer, open the new shortcut in NotePad, freeware app by Tillanosoft (or your fave text editor). It should look like this:

44#"Program Files\youtubeplay\youtubeplay.exe"

This shortcut has the same ugly YouTube icon as the EXE has. You can change the icon, though, by using your text editor. For example, my 3 other shortcuts, in respective order, same as in above images, are:

66#"Program Files\youtubeplay\youtubeplay.exe"?\Windows\DmRout er.exe,-0
69#"Program Files\youtubeplay\youtubeplay.exe"?\Windows\shellr es.96.dll,-13944
69#"Program Files\youtubeplay\youtubeplay.exe"?\Windows\shellr es.96.dll,-14001

The number at the beginning is total number of characters, starting with the # symbol as 1st character to count, up to, but not including, the comma.

Once you've adjusted the LNK shortcut to have your desired icon, go to your tdL options in Today Screen Items. Delete the existing YouTube item, and add the LNK file in its place.

Hope this helps, MrG

Edit: Some strange extra spaces are showing up above. Can't seem to be fix'd, arrgh! For example, "DmRout er" should be "DmRouter" w/out the space. Same for "shellr es" which should be "shellres" instead.

Re: Need some help with icons

MrGoodtunes, I want to say thank you for the time that you've spent explaining to me how to change the icon. And yes, you did get me to use the tdlauncher. A while back you gave me some good information, not onyl on the launcher , but how to set it up. Thank again for chiming in, and helping me out.

Thanks T M Z

Re: Need some help with icons

Have you tried modifying your link for youtubeplay in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs as Mr Goodtunes described to add the path to the dll or exe where your icon is located? The HTC plugin usually uses the path to the lnk files in the registry. Here's the registry path if you want to check it to make sure it used the lnk file:

HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHOME\Launcher\x\Path where x is the position in the launcher.

If your icon is a bmp instead of imbedded in another files, then change or add the key IconPath under the launcher position key (x in the path above) and set it to the path for your image file.

Re: Need some help with icons

Well, thanks to lisat96 who has provided omarnova's solution, let's move on to another icon spruce-up job, namely Opera. I see TMZ is using the leak'd Diamond Opera, like most of us with Touch Vogue. Apparently our set up is close enough to Diamond for that version to work for us better than the Official Beta release from Opera.com, but the icon isn't as nice. My opinion is due to the white pixels on right side edges of the "O" looking sort of wrong on dark background, not as nice as the cool cherry red glow of the shadowless official beta-1 icon.

Bottom right is messed-up Diamond Opera icon, above it is Official Beta 1 icon. If you want to use the beta1 icon for the leak'd Diamond version, all you need is to create a shortcut LNK file pointing to the beta1 icon, and of course, you need the icon itself too. I've discovered the icon is contained within OperaL.exe, but God only knows what'd happen if you over-write it. So I suggest creating a Shortcuts folder within My Documents, and put both the EXE and LNK in there. In this case, the LNK can simply be:

59#"\Windows\OperaL.exe"?\My Documents\Shortcuts\OperaL-b1.exe,-0

And here's the beta1 icon file...
