Any word on an Official Bell RevA/GPS ROM?

Hi all,

Curious if anyone has heard of anything on an official RevA/GPS ROM for Bell Mobility. TELUS has released theirs, I'm currently waiting for an official Bell ROM but if there's nothing coming I'll just upgrade.

Best bet is to switch to telus, Bell doesn't like their customers very much (from personal experience).

Well, I think $7 for unlimited data (or in my case, included IN my regular plan) better than $30. But my math could be wrong!

My guess, they are not likely to spend money on developing a specific upgrade that isn't necessary for such a low ARPU device. Especially with the instinct around the corner, and I'm sure they are well aware of the ones wanting such an upgrade are finding other ways to make it happen with out their help. that being said, the squeaky wheel gets the grease as the saying goes. Send them an email and see what they say!

but that one is no match to Touch?

(it does have GPS, but that's all, nothing else?
Touch has it too with custom ROM..)

True, but I can tether without fear!
badkarma - I would just go with a cooked ROM, I put NFSFans cooked Bell ROM on my buddies Bell touch, and it is the only ROM we used that gave him no problems. I think that Bell has done something weird with their Touch, we tried three or four different ROMs (including the PPCKitchen) and he always had big problems.

Really? I never thought of that. I'm bell as well I it never occurred to me that the touch itself could have something done to it that would make any software changes react differently from other unaltered touches.

What kind of big problems has your friend encountered. I don't think I've encountered any big problems.

Neither is the iPhone (don't flame, but it's true). But there is a lot of hype around it. i have clients asking me daily when we will get it.

Re: Any word on an Official Bell RevA/GPS ROM?

Well, we did the same setup with PPCKitchen and sbrl3gion only changing carrier settings and his phone froze every time he tried to play music (either wmp or audio manager), weather would work first time, but not update after, gps worked once and then stopped (even after soft reset) or gps would say it was working but had him 15km away, certain 3rd party apps would not work on his phone (when they would work on mine), things wouldn't install.... We also tried a few other Bell ROMs and until NFSFans ROM, nothing would work right. We thought it might be the memory card or something else, but the ROM from NFSFAN worked without a flaw and we didn't do anything to the card.
I remember reading a post where a guy was trying to clone a telus touch to bell, and he was having problems because the memory wouldn't read all the way through, it just seems to be something Bell did. It wouldn't surprise me if bell made a deal for deffective phones, but I was really unhappy with my service (phones and people) when I thought that the grass was greener.

hmm...now you're getting me thinking about some of those. I guess I'm not that picky or probably it hasn't been too much of an inconvenience that I made it stand out. I'm starting to wondera bout the GPS though, it doesn't seem to work as well as previous roms from earlier kitchen. don't really listen to too much music so can't say...as for weather, havent really notice anything but I guess I should be more vigilant and look into those things. But I guess even with all that I'm ok with it. I havent tried NFSFAN's rom but maybe one day I'll give it a run to see if there is a difference.

Re: Any word on an Official Bell RevA/GPS ROM?

Telus isn't an option. I'm paying 22bux including taxes/fees with unlimited data and all the other regular goodies on Bell. I sent an email off to Bell, I'll post the response when I get it.
