I did the same. Working fine. Not sure how much the performance has increased but I definitely have more memory.

Now I'm working on deleting the 5.66Mb of BRN files as well which I understand are only used for the Cube. But the files are locked and can't be moved or deleted.

I probably should figure out how to boot to safe-mode before I go to much further. There are 62 BRN files and they may not all be for the Cube.

EDIT: DUH... they are in ROM so I can't delete them. I guess I could use the same 0-byte-file method as for the other files or else cook a ROM and leave them out. Anybody else want to make 62 0-byte files and upload them? Anybody?

EDIT: Standby... after SPB Pocket Plus install completely trashed my Today screen and Startups, I have the opportunity to hard reset my phone. Yippeee. I made the 0 byte files and might as well test it out.

Re: Removing the Cube...

The results are in for Cube memory usage.

I disabled the cube with the regedit posted above.

I replaced APLauncher, MediaHubMini, and QuickDial with the 0 byte files posted above. I did not replace BioTouch cuz' I think that messes up things like touch scrolling. I gained 2Mb of memory.

I replaced all of the BRN image files with my 0 byte BRN files and gained another 4.11Mb without any apparent side effects for a total of 6.11Mb more free memory!

I've attached a ZIP with my 0 byte BRN files as well as the originals if anybody wants some free memory.

You'll need Resco File Explorer or a similar app to copy the 0 byte files to \Windows because WM File Explorer won't let you overwrite files in ROM. And you'll have to click OK to overwrite files in ROM 62 times.

Use at your own risk! I have no idea how this might affect other programs. I'm running a brand new flash of OMJ 3.09 ROM and it works fine for me.

Thanks to r0p3 at XDA I was able to see what each file does before I destroyed it. If you're curious, see this post.
Attached Files
File Type: zip BRN Files.zip (1.34 MB, 36 views) Click for barcode!

Re: Removing the Cube...

Quick questions, when the phone loads from a reset it loads biotouch, and the other programs for the cube....if I rename the other programs to something like S2p will that load from the unswipe on that should bring up the cube? similar to the musicflo?

You can't rename the files cooked into the ROM.. the system won't allow it.

What are you trying to achieve?

That is a very interesting question, you might try it and report back... The way to try is to rename s2p.exe to applauncher.exe on your storage card, then use resco explorer to copy it into windows and overwrite it...I think the name is applauncher......

Resco Explorer gives you the ability to rename/overwrite system files.

Re: Removing the Cube...

OIC now what yer' trying to do. The file is aplauncher.exe. I'm curious to know how this works too.

I didn't think you could rename, only over-wite files in ROM. I'll keep that in mind. Might come in handy.

Re: Removing the Cube...

I'll give it a try tonight and see if I can report back later on it. right now my current ROM is built around using the Throttlelauncher program. It would be awesome if you could set a certain program to launch from the finger upswipe instead of the cube. As I said before, I'll screw up my backup phone to see if it works.

You are a steely eyed missile man Style. If it works I'll be launching Accuweather to keep track of the endless hurricanes coming at me!

Re: Removing the Cube...

denasqu,

Hey Vancer here,

I don't know if you are as afflicted with OCD as I am, but at one point I got really anal about removing the cube...COMPLETELY. And by that I mean all the files AND all the assciated reg entries. At the time I was cooking a rom that was a customization of OMJ's 3.03 clean. It took a while to figure it all out but it is possible to remove every trace of it while cooking if you wish.

Here is an excerpt of a pm between OMJ and I where I was telling him how I accomplished this...

-----

I did finally get rid of the cube using your clean rom as a base I deleted APLauncher, CustAPLauncher, MediaHubMini, and Quickdial along with a bunch of .brn files. I then had to go through the .rgu in OEMAPPS and remove all the references to those files. Built and flashed and had one refernce to App3 left in the registry that took FOREVER to find but finally did so in OEM\OperatorPKG\mixupdate_oemoperators_102.provxml . Once this was complete and I built and flashed, I no longer had the cube nor any references to it in the registry so it didn't have to be disabled Also since I left Biotouch and TFSettings I still had touchflo scrolling. There were a few entries left in the .rgu that referenced the quickdial in a directory other than hklm\software\htc\biotouch (don't remember which one exactly), so I left them in hopes that they would be used for the HTC Home quick contacts and I'm not sure if that was the case but the quick contacts on HTC Home work and don't dissappear with a soft re-set even though there was no longer a quickdial on the cube to set them

-----

Give it a try next time you cook a rom and you will find no trace of the cube again, nor will you have to use 0 Kb files to replace files that aren't there

Note: This was done when OMJ was still working off a Sprint ROM rather than a Bell ROM so the reference .provxml may be a little different in the 3.09 roms

Take Care,

Vancer

Thanks, but I already did it the day after I created all the 0 byte files.

I didn't hunt down all the reg entries though. Just disabled. So I guess I;"m not that OCD... just stingy about the memory.
