What are your thoughts on Touch after Official ROM update?
I currently have the 6700 running WM 6.0. I like it, but would like something smaller and more capable. With the new ROM and the $70 price I can get the Touch for, it seems like a very capable unit for a very low price. I just don't know if its worth renewing a contract for or if I'd be able to get used to the keyboard, although I realize most who use it say they get used to it after a while.
For those who have it and who have installed the new ROM, I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. I'd also like to hear from those who went from the 6700 to the Touch. How simple of a switch was it to go from physical to virtual keyboard? I went to a Sprint store and played with the Touch tonight. I've looked at them before, but never seriously considered getting one, so never looked too long. My main reason for wanting to play with one was to see what the new keyboard looks like, but the one on display still had the old ROM and the reps weren't very helpful with information about the new ROM. I like the look, size, weight and feel compared to the 6700. I like that its WM 6.1 which I'm familiar with and can keep using my programs and settings and everything else. The Touch interface though, its definitely different and would take some time to get used to. I can't say I like or don't like it, its just different. It did seem to be a bit slow to respond to touches sometimes and other times it didn't respond on the first touch. But, considering its a demo, this doesn't surprise me. How is the rf and call quality on the Touch? Also, would anyone be able to post a screenshot of the qwerty in the new ROM or a link where there is a pic? Thanks!!! |

Re: What are your thoughts on Touch after ROM update?
I think it depends upon how much typing you do. I had the 6700 and upgraded to the Touch last December. Just based on the size alone, it was worth it. Not to mention all of the additional capability. The GPS is huge for me. At times I wish I had the physical keyboard, but not enough that I would be willing to give up everything else. If you're wondering about soft keyboards, download the Cootek Touchpal keyboard to your 6700 and use that a bit - that will give you a feel for it.
Bottom line - I have never regretted for a second making this move. And I don't know that I would be willing to take on the additional size and weight to get back a physical keyboard. |

If you don't have one already you may want to wait for a Diamond.
Personally, I think the build quality on the Diamond is a bit better, the resolution is nice, and the accelerometer would be worth a few months wait IMO. |

I had a 6800 before I got my Touch, and to be honest with you, I completely regretted the switch after about a month. But then I got used to the keyboard, the Diamond keyboard came out, and I started really USING all of the Touch's features. Now I love it much more than my 6800. And after the release of the official Sprint ROM, this thing is awesome!
1-5 second GPS locks most of the time, and it also has better battery life (than the leaked ROMs I tried). The Touch is worlds above the 6700 and 6800, and if you can get it for $70, just do it, then sell it when the Diamond comes out. |

i would switch to the touch if i were you for only $70. The diamond is supposed to be a really cool phone, but it is getting some not so good reviews. I hope that when it becomes available that the chefs can work their magic with it and make it better. The touch is a pretty well established phone, and its form factor makes it so easy to carry and use. If you ask me i would get the touch
