Battery draining while phone is off

For the last few days I've turned my phone off when the battery is in the 40% range. When I turn the phone on the next morning my battery is at 10%.

Why would the battery drain when the phone is off?

Re: Battery draining while phone is off

It would depend on what it is doing...

Do you have it doing weather updates? Are you getting text messages? Do you have it checking email? Is Bluetooth left on? Are you in a location that the phone roams? Are you running GPS on it? All of these will kill the battery faster.

If your answer is no to all of these, then the answer would be simple battery drain. It is still polling cellular towers, which will in and of itself use bttery. Either way, if it is only dropping 30% over 6-8 hours, that is not bad at all, IMHO.

definetly i agree, RickRed40, i think you are not turning your phone off and just turning the screen off, big difference. but if you are turning it off properly, try and take the battery out next time and see how that affects your battery level.

Re: Battery draining while phone is off

It's unlikely that the battery would drain that much while the whole phone is powered off. The only way you can do that is to remove the battery or press and hold the power button at the top for 3 seconds and hit ok when the icon comes up.

Check the battery, if it is swollen, that could be one reason, unlikely tho. Anytime a battery has a contact to a source, even if it is powered off, it's draining the battery. But this drain is very very very low.

Also are you using Dashwire or another program that starts up when the phone is powered on. That meter is more like one of those predicting gas mileage meters. It recognizes how much battery life you have vs the usuage of the phone. If you are powering it on and have 5 or more apps running, of course it's going to read low.

That was very well said.

Re: Battery draining while phone is off

Also ensure you are charging with a HTC approved charing device, I have seen people use other 'connectors' that match. It says their phone is at 100% battery and when they unplug it, the battery will jump down to 70% - same when they shut the phone off and turn it back on.

No one likes a fried battery!

Re: Battery draining while phone is off

I appreciate the comments and suggestions. First I am powering off the phone. It is not left on sleep mode. Again last night the battery was at 30% when I turned the phone off. Turned it on, and without running any programs it was down to 10%.

The battery is NOT swollen, nor has the phone been exposed to water. Maybe I should consider doing something foolish like contacting Sprint Tech Support.

Re: Battery draining while phone is off

Tech support won't be the issue, I'd say more like Service Tech at repair center. They can put your phone on a machine to test the battery, or run a diag. on the phone it'self.
It could be just a bad IC chip.

You still haven't told us how you're turning the phone off.
