I didn't change anything other than the ROMs.

I tried 20270 a couple times and didn't get locks, however I didn't test it much. After the last 2 kitchen didn't produce any results I didn't really bother much until I tried these fixes. So it is possible the kitchen is primarily the reason things are working in general but the changes seem to imrove things for others as well.

I will check on my friends phone that he just put a 20270 rom and none of the other fixes yet next to mine and we can do a side by side comparison. I would hard reset but I'm too lazy to redo my settings right now.

NEW THEORY: Calibration!

Take your Touch for a few walks around the block with VisualGPSce open. I did this afternoon and I can now get a lock in 20 seconds with 5 satellites from my living room, where I had no satellites as of this morning. Outside, it locks consistently in 5-6 seconds, even after soft resets and with any GPS program I try. Who would've thought!?

Before this, I had no success doing everything listed in this thread and a couple of others. I saw 1-3 satellites at most from the window of my living room and 3-4 satellites driving to and from work. All the while I could never get a lock. Even when I first went outside, it showed 9 satellites but still no lock for at least the first 10 minutes. I actually gave up and put the thing away, only to find that by the time I got home, my phone could all of the sudden beat the pants off of my Garmin for navigation.

In case you want to know, I unlocked with the official Sprint ROM and am running the ROM posted by Negamann on a Verizon XV6900 purchased this past weekend.

I hear that. Last time I was this obsessed with something was when Mech Warrior II came out. LOL

-Installed 3 files from the thread

I did not:
-Change the server IP (still at 195.207.101.126)

I wound up with the same configuration after running through a bunch of permutations, and I'd say it's slightly better. It seems to see more satellites but dances around them a lot. Where it was taking 15-30 seconds to get a fix, now it's taking 15 seconds or less. It's sees sats inside (but can't get a fix) whereas it did not before.

I tried changing the serverIP first and it saw wouldn't lock.
So I added the 3 files, still saw but wouldn't lock.
Changed the serverIP back to 195 and still saw but wouldn't lock.
Added the EnablePDEIPFromNV and it worked again.

I was working fine before I started messing around BTW!

I really need to get my life back! My neighbors must think I've lost it ... walking around in my bathrobe in the front yard at 1am! http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I'll have to see how she goes on the road tomorrow.

EDIT: Okay I REALLY need my life back. It's 1:40am and I just discovered the biggest change is that Live Search doesn't need to be primed with VisualGPS anymore.

EDIT: After a day of testing. Result = I couldn't ask for better performance. Locks within 10 seconds every time and no priming necessary. The changes plus the 20270 kitchen are a winning combo for me!

Re: Update verizon PRI and Sprint AGPS

can you test in areas, lets say 1hr away from your current location?
it locks pretty quickly around your house cause it remembers the location after first time.
and i think Cold Starts or Clear Memory dont quite clear it. i noticed first lock can take 2m-forever on the verizon touch (if forever, usually softreset or take battery out). i was testing new kitcken today with gpsviewer/visualgpsce and BAF GPS toggle.
and had satelites jumping all over the place and i ran the .cabs mentioned, and it stopped jumping. seems to lock quick. but i know if i go into the city tomorrow, it wont lock as quick. we'll see.

I have been testing it away from my house. Worked everywhere every time I turned it on.

I current using DHarvey's Verizon ROM. I can't get a GPS signal either. I tried all of the suggestions and I was only able to get a signal only once. When I woke up the next morning the gps was back to normal non working status. i going to try another another rom.

try building your rom in the ppcgeeks kitchen. then test gps without the above listed changes and then, if necessary, and them. please report back your results if you give this a try.

Re: Update verizon PRI and Sprint AGPS

Anybody who have GPS working now (working means lock within a minute with consistency), can you report whether you have dial *228 to program your phone after you flash your rom and/or radio?

The reason I am asking is that I suspect that's what make gps work, or make it not working on the XV6900. I've trying in the past 2 days flashing between the new sprint rom and the latest 20270 kitchen, with no other changes besides installing Google Map 2.2. The results are pretty consistance, and I can get a lock pretty fast indoor. But as soon as I dial *228 to program my phone, gps will never work again. I would have to reflash the phone in order to get it work.

Just my observation here. I hope more people can do some test to find out more.

ps. the registry is with gpsmode=4 and have EnablePDEIPFromNV=1, but both are already in the kitchen and the sprint rom.

I've dialed *228 and it's not effected my gps performance. As for the EnablePDEIPFromNV, that would be in the sprint rom since it's a sprint setting. It previously wasn't in the ppcgeeks kitchen if its there now (I have it cooked into mine), at least for builds preceding that from the leaked rom.

Re: Update verizon PRI and Sprint AGPS

so it may have something to do with the new kitchen? I can tell, I am getting better gps now. Not that it's perfect, but much better then before.

denasqu 08-02-2008 03:57 PM

Re: Update verizon PRI and Sprint AGPS

I have not done the *228 opt 1 yet and my GPS usually locks within a few seconds. Never as long as a minute. I'm using the 20270 kitchen and the registry changes.

Re: Update verizon PRI and Sprint AGPS

According to this post: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Biotouch\MediaHubM ini\App1_3]
"Path"="\\Windows\\tcpmp.exe"
Verizon seems to have a new gps-enabled rom for xv6800, and although it may not work as well as the sprint version, it does update and fix the PRI to 2.xx version. So my question is if it's possible to extract the ppst.exe from the rom and fix the PRI in the Touch as well? Maybe I am too optimistic, but just thought that maybe what we are missing.

After running PPST.exe my ROM gets me a very precise lock indoors with Windows Live search in about 12-18 seconds.

Re: Update verizon PRI and Sprint AGPS

where do you get the ppst.exe blkcat? AFAIK, the ppst available now is only for the Sprint Touch, which is NOT COMPATIABLE for Verizon Touch. Can you elaborate?

Re: Update verizon PRI and Sprint AGPS

Well, I tried the fix from the 1st page and it didn't seem to make any difference. I'd be interested in the PPS that blkcat referenced.

Re: Update verizon PRI and Sprint AGPS

yeh everything i read past few months here says the ppst is for SPRINT and probably WILL mess up your phone.
beware!

update: just made the same registry changes to the alltel vogue, which stopped getting locks after I had cooked the files into a rom last night. Locks on five satellites after a soft reset after making the registry changes.

ok not sure if I did this right, sorry newbie to this, but how do you add EnablePDEIPFromNV

what i did was went to the splu agps and added a new dword key named EnablePDEIPFromNV with the value of 00000001

is this correct?

also where do i get th PPST.exe ? and is this for the xv6900?

i am using negaman's rom

EDIT!!!!

ok, I think I got working better, I installed each of the files in order, 1, 2, 3

set these:
"EnableGPSSmartMode"=dword:00000000
"EnableAGPS"=dword:00000000

left gpsmode at 4

and added:
"EnablePDEIPFromNV "=dword:00000001

(i figured out how to add the new dword value ;) it was just "New Dword Value")

I stepped outside of my office and I got a lock in about 1 minute. I am on the 26th floor of a 48 floor tower, so I dont think I will get anything in here.

I will try tonite and see how fast it locks at home and inside my house.

NOW, if I could only find a good Bike mount and a way to charge the phone while riding my bike via the tires spinning, i would be in 7th heaven. Really would love to track my bike trips/speed/millage and log them

Looking at BlkCat's sig suggests that he is on Sprint which would explain why the PPST worked and why the lock is so quick.

maybe soon you can at least charge phone while riding.

i just got a replacement verizon phone (orig had the 'side crack' issue), still having trouble with GPS on new one too. got a decent lock at home, but not in city.

Applied all the fixed, using DCD 3.2.5, radio 3.42.50 and now getting locks in under 15 seconds without Quick GPS. Not much faster using Quick GPS. THANKS!! This is on a VZW 6800.

Re: Update verizon PRI and Sprint AGPS

The "3 files" are placebo efect at this point. All they do is allow for unregistered dll's to work... they were originally needed with the Alltell ROM because it did not include some dll's needed for GPS and they were copied from a different device. Now that ROMs exist with GPS completely enabled, the 3 files do nothing effective for GPS.

Re: Update verizon PRI and Sprint AGPS

If you're looking at this thread, and have been following the steps, and nothing has worked. It's because everyone here was getting a placebo effect. The solution HAS been found by GC. It ACTUALLY works! The VERIZON aGPS server has been found and is being used. I tried it on the XV6900 and got 8 satellites on a rainy day in my office, LOCKED in 5-10 seconds. The last time I ran my GPS was yesterday, but 2,000 miles away! This is NOT a placebo. It is the solution!

Thanks GC!

Re: Update verizon PRI and Sprint AGPS

Edit: Nevermind. I don't know how to turn it off, but research shows that it is just to "help" the GPS, and is not required to actually USE the GPS, I can mind extra time to lock if it means I am not using data. Now, I suppose to turn it off I just set the IP address in the registry to 0.0.0.0?

Hello,

I am about the purchase the VX6900 because it does not need the data plan (I have a laptop and an aircard) mandated by Verizon.

I understood that the GPS could be "unlocked", which I took to mean that any GPS program could use the built in receiver.

However, and I apologize for my lack of knowledge here, but it appears that the phone needs to access an IP number (Data- AGPS??) to work.

Is there any way to use the GPS and NOT use any data?

I'm not trying to be smart or anything, but like every other GPS?

I'm sorry to bring this thread back, but I really need to know before the phone gets in.

You can use gps programs like Iguidance which do not require direct download of maps to phone via a data plan.

I think the poster meant that a data plan is not required to purchase the verizon touch unlike the omnia which requires a data plan to buy.
