Google Maps question.

Is there any way to set Google Maps so that when you start the program the "Use GPS" option is turned on by default? I would like to know because hitting menu and then Use GPS every time to start the GPS is getting old quick and I use Google Maps all the time.

Thanks for any help in advance,

Dan.

Re: Google Maps question.

nope, not that I know of...Maybe you might be able to write a mortscript for it though (run gmpas, wait 2 seconds, right softkey, down 2/3/etc/select)

Great idea but not really familiar with mortscript and if it was done, I would want it done invisibly so that no one knows it's actually going on. The idea is to start GPS as soon as the application is launched to help with GPS lock times.

Re: Google Maps question.

Once you have it set up, have you tried to copy the data files it creates on the device to your OEM? The files are created in the \Application Data\GoogleMaps...I didn't see any registry settings for it...

edit: And add this to the OEM's initflashfiles.txt

Quote:
Directory("\Application Data\GoogleMaps"):-File("cache-GLM.dat","\windows\cache-GLM.dat")
Directory("\Application Data\GoogleMaps"):-File("prefs.dat","\windows\prefs.dat")
Directory("\Application Data\GoogleMaps"):-File("prefsext.dat","\windows\prefsext.dat")

Have you tried this? Does it make the Use GPS option checked by default?

Re: Google Maps question.

Yep, I tried it. I was able to keep a couple of settings like "Use satellite view". But looks like the Use gps option is an internal variable and is reset everytime you restart the exe.

This does turn off the license agreement and the warning about not using it while driving. So I'm gonna leave mine alone so noone sues me.

I didn't do anything special to my google maps and it does save options such as "Satellite View" "View Traffic" ... but not "Use GPS". I also never see the agreement or warnings...only had those the first time I opened Google Maps. This looks like a bug or missing feature in Google Maps, so reporting it to Google would be the best thing...

If you delete those three files I mentioned above, it will be like running googlemaps for the first time. The use gps option might be a safety feature or battery saver. Probably more of a battery saver so you don't use the gps unless the program is running.
