Force Roam in new Sprint ROM
 

Can someone that has the old ROM with the Roam Only option in the Phone Settings please list all keys and values from the registry located here:

HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\NetworkService

And

HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\AllowRoaming (this was set to 1 and I changed it to 0 but it didn't allow forced roaming)

I think I figured it out (atleast it seems to work for me).

Under HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting
Change AllowRoaming to 0 (not sure if this is needed or not)

Under HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\NetworkService
Change ItemCount to 3 (instead of 2)
Create a new String called ItemName3 with the value of "Roam Only" (without quotes)
Create a new DWord called ItemValue3 with a value of 3

You don't even have to soft reset. You can go into your phone settings and now have the option of Roam Only and when you select it you get the little triangle for roaming.

Sweet.. works :) Just tried it and tried to dial out and got an alltel erorr message (cuz I didn't dial the area code before dialing the number).

quick question, i've tried to make these changes, but when i make the call, i get a msg from verizon wireless saying they haven't authenticated my phone. is anyone one running into the same problem?

I just noticed that after a soft reset (quite some time after doing this) that the option to roam only is gone again..anyone else have this happen or stick?

I noticed a post in the Titan forum where someone figured out the same settings with the Titan's recent ROM and they noticed the same problem on a soft reset.

I guess for now, if someone really needs this feature, maybe someone could write a mortscript or a small app to add/change these reg keys that we could place in startup. Anyone willing to try?

do the reg entries in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\InitProv\PhoneSett ing

change ItemCount to 3

New string: ItemName3 Value- Roaming.

New Dword: ItemValue3 Value- 3



and reset. now it sticks

does ne one have a suggestion for the verizon authentication i'm getting on roaming? wish this wasn't an issue, but roaming is the only way i get reception from my house...

It worked for me. Did you do both settings (the ones I posted and the ones you quoted above)? I'm not sure if you have to do both or not, but mine sticks after a soft reset.

What is the purpose for forcing roam?
Is this just for people flashing the new ROM without Sprint as their carrier?

If you have Sprint, sometimes people want to force their phones on roaming if...

1) They're in a poor Sprint coverage area and can get a better roaming signal
2) They can roam on an EVDO Rev A network where Sprint doesn't offer one (probably Alltel)

Could some of the pros please make a cab for us dummies that can't add a new item or d word into their registry?

I for one don't know what the heck I'm doing in registry and I read that if you don't know what you are doing, you can screw things up.

Thanks I needed this. Followed the instructions to the T and got my roaming working. ^^^ is right a cab is needed for those who quite just can't get it!!

I also vote for a cab (i also requested it in the registry cab requests thread), so hopefully someone does it. With all the flashing some of us do, it'd be nice to have this already to setup with a cab, versus having to do it in the registry ourselves. I can also confirm, that both entries (the one in initprov, and the other one) need to both be done, to make it stick.

I got it to stick but I cant get a signal
in places I was able to get roaming before.

Does anybody know how to get the Service Acquire and Lost Tone to work when the phone switches to Sprint or Roaming?

I get the same issue where I can force roaming successfully now and get the message that Verizon Wireless cannot authenticate my phone where it was able to authenticate prior to the ROM update. Anyone figure out how to overcome this yet?

The new PRL does that... (v. 60613)

You can try downgrading your PRL to earlier versions... here's how:

Thank you for the information. Are you sure this will work? The post you reference is someone who used to get Ev for data roaming and the upgrade gave him 1x for data roaming. My issue is voice or data, I pick up Verizon signal but can't data roam at all and get a Verizon message saying my phone can't be authenticated when I try to make phone calls. I'm not sure ifthat has anything to do with the PRL. I just want to be sure before I try to get my MSL.

I thought 60711 was the latest PRL - could someone confirm what is the latest? I had connectivity issues with the PRL on the new sprint firmware so I put in 60711 and seemed OK.

Is there no roaming with the Sprint ROM
 

Hello,

I don't think I've yet gone to an area where I roam but I might need to. Does the new Sprint firmware prevent you from roaming completely or just reduce your chance of roaming in weak sprint signal areas?

The PRL that comes with the new ROM is 60613. I've tried 60611 and 60612 and they wouldn't give me EV while roaming.. 60610 would.

60613 actually gives me EV locally now... I'm sure it's using Altell towers but I don't have to ROAM to get it... so I'm sticking with 60613.

You can try 60610 and see how things go... if you don't like it just upgrade it back to 60613 (just extract all files from the new ROM and you'll see PRL_60613.prl there).

if you call sprint, they should be able to fix it for you. i had the same problem and gave them a call, and now everything is working like it was before.

sO...since I haven't heard anything I flashed the stock ROM 3.35, then exported the registry setting. Then I went back to my favorite no2chem ROM and imported the settings which were missing.

I'll upload them when I get a chance so others can do the same!

How do people use this option? Do you leave your phone roaming all the time or do you toggle back and forth?

I have decent coverage at home (Sprint) but I have no coverage at work, but Verizon comes through great. Anyways, I find that it's a hassle to switch back and forth. Is it possible to write a script that could do this for you? Preferably something that you could put in the programs menu or a launcher menu.

i downgraded my prl but i still can't roam. i know verizon has coverage around here but whenever i select roaming only, it goes to 1x and is actually still on the sprint network. i found this out because i went to an ip tracking website and it showed me i still had a sprint ip address. any ideas to get roaming working? thanks
