[quote=stevedog1;320284] Oh, and to enlighten you. Any A-GPS device (especially our Touch) can work in any of the four above situations at any given time.... A-GPS HAS FOUR MODES. Whether or not it has been rendered incapable of any of them is fully up to the carrier, but either way the fact remains that A-GPS IS CAPAPBLE OF ALL THESE MODES./quote]

yup, and it's real easy to test on the touch- put it in airplane mode (turns off the cell antenna), and the gps still works.

i didn't think that *all* a-gps was capable of all four modes- i was specifically thinking of the gpsone chip used in a whole crapload of phones, but looking at the manufacturer's website, there it is, plain as day. ;D
"Supports multiple modes of GPS, inclusive of standalone..."

LOL, how about post #43 (that comes right after #42 :disgust:) where you say:

I think this thread needs to be closed before it gets ugly. There is nothing useful being contributed here (and that includes my comments).

i agree jethro is just acting like a condescending know it all and is CLEARLY very wrong.

the 72/7500 chipset can work in ANY of the 4 modes at any time. If you have data service it will use satellites+data. If there is no data or cell signal it will REVERT to standalone.

This has been 100000% proven that gps programs that use storage card maps work with the phone in flight mode and no signals whats so ever being used (cell or data.

This guy keeps changing the story what hes arguing- i dont think he even knows his point anymore honestly. but its 100000000000000% wrong either way. What ive just said has been proven in real life by plenty of people. This guy just doesnt want to listen to anyones opinion because he thinks his is the only correct one and continues to say the same drivel over and over and over again.Im sure 90% of us are ready to bang our heads on the wall after reading it.

Please mods close this thread, its become useless and FULL of confusing misinformation

Wow, where did this thread come from? As SprintTouch08 said, the Titan and the Vogue will both function without cell tower assistance. 100% complete, certain fact.

I agree, this thread should be closed and archived/deleted. Completely misleading.

The only device that can do more than 1 mode coz sombody came up with a hack for it.
The fact that the Sprint Q9c operates in standalone should be a sign of how Sprint plans to adopt aGPS systems in their Windows Mobile lineup (read here and here regarding possible updates for GPS for the Mogul and Touch). Interestingly, someone came up with a hack to enable the assistance servers for the Q9c to give all the benefits of a true aGPS system.

read read read analyze and understand. LOL

The questions are getting redundant. Only one person understands. First they say they don't need data from servers at all. Afterwards they say that they can use standalone and data if needed. Thanks to all who participate. i really had fun. I'm Outie.
last post.

Someone really should correct all this misinformation. I'm on the bus right now, so it's not going to be me. And with the weekend coming up I probably won't be online much. This is going to create a lot of confusion. No offense meant to anyone.
