Re: just bought an external gps

Yes, external GPS still works fine and it works better than the internal one. Internal GPS is defaulted as COM4, right? Just leave the way it is. You set external BT GPS normally to different COM ex: COM2, then set your GPS com port to COM2 and direct your GPS software to COM2 not COM4 in order to use external BT GPS. I am using Iguidance 4.0 and it works much better with external GPS.

Why do you need to prime the GPS? Have you not done enough reading on the forums? I can start TomTom ANYTIME and get a lock in less than 15 secs. I used the trick w/ SK shortcut manager and AstroGPS launcher. Works like a charm. No need to prime. Google maps works the same....

Have you not been reading ? That IS priming the gps chip. that's exactly what astrogps launcher is , a gps primer. you are simply bypassing the extra step of starting 2 programs manually where the shortcut manager does this for you.

I understand that using astrogps is "priming", although, i am refering to using astrogps or holuxgpsviewer as standalone options....not making a 1 button shortcut to launch TomTom or Garmin.

You wrote,

You go one to belittle the OP by asking if they have read anything, then you contradict your self in your explanation.
You are priming your gps. do not go about giving out advice and confusing the matter more when you are wrong. Again from your original post you claim that you do not need to prime your gps , then you clearly explain that's exactly what you are doing .

Re: just bought an external gps

with internal GPS, I can get GPS lock in less than 30 second most of the time. Just open GoogleMap first to prime it, when you open GoogleMap, right on MENU, clcik "USE GPS" so GPS locks right away.

Priming does nothing but make you feel good.

Exactly, I thought that we finally got past the "priming" stage.... and thank god, I never liked that term. Lol.

If you run the ppst.exe, you should have no trouble with sprint. (SOrry Verizon, I haven't followed anything about VZW.) -Enjoy your external GPS, I personally would have held off a little bit longer to at least try a future VZW ROM upgrade before I purchased one.
