Re: Anyone using Garmin Mobile XT GPS Software?

Has anyone else noticed massive battery drain after using, and exiting, Garmin? I liked the software a lot, but it seemed to cause really bad battery leakage after using it. I'd have it plugged in when using it, then exit the software and unplug it from the charger when done navigating. Even though I exited the software, I'd still get really bad drain as if the GPS was still active or something. I've been comparing Garmin and MioMap 3.3. I don't have this problem when I use MioMap, only Garmin. I've uninstalled Garmin because of this, but liked the software more than MioMap. Has anyone had the problem, and know of a fix?

i copy all the files to the new card and it works fine

also copy everything under the garmin folder on device, as a back up.
in case of hard reset, reinstall from the new card
and replace the garmin folder on device with everything you copied as a back up, that works for me

I've got the Garmin programs/maps on an official 2 gig Garmin chip. It works fine as is with the GPS in the phone (Mogul).

I've tried copying the files from Garmin chip to a 4 gig chip; the maps don't copy and the program now says it will work only with the Garmin GPS. I can get the bluetooth GPS recognized, but without maps even that is useless. I tried selecting maps from my Garmin Mapsource disc via the Mapinstall program and everything seems to go well, but after a sync there are still no maps on my 4 gig chip.

One guy at Garmin said I was out of luck...but another guy at Gramin eMailed me a few days later saying all I had to do was copy the files from the Garmin chip to my own.

I'd like to run Mapsource maps on my phone using the built-in GPS like so many of you are doing (and y'all make it sound so simple/easy). Can any of you help?

anyway i been using garmin xt for a little while now and it is slowly working out for me. i dont know much but if the other big gps programs need a primer that is a big plus for this one.

I serched the site and i can not find a garmin mobile xt cd for sale anyware though maybe that person who suggested it can link it up?

Just run the Rom update and you can use GPS. I have upgraded my ROM, you can find it on this site, and it works great with telenav. I have not noticed a drop in battery life but I don't use the GPS too much since I have it in my car and a portable unit I take with me when I travel.

Does Garmin change anyone's system time? I stopped using it because it automatically changed my time.

Then you are using their external bluetooth gps... Their software is locked to one or the other - an authenticated sd card (contains a code tied to a unique card id) or their bluetooth gps....

I am a Noob :newb: to this forum, so I may not articulate as well as others (technology-wise), but here goes...

When you copy the files over to another card, you also need to copy the file with the unlock code into the SAME file folder as well. You will need to enter your original unlock code that came with your software again, but it should then work for you. I hope this helps.

I am using the Garmin software and the time does get changed and then switched to night mode. I believe if you leave it go for a couple minutes it will change back.

My experience is that the time will change if you use the intermediate gps driver. I've heard that if you use com4, the time should be ok. However, you need to open the gps port before launching Garmin, which is also troublesome for me.
