anyone know what that means?

Is this message from your PPC, when you use the storage management utility or is this from your desktop/laptop OS?

Personally, if I can help it, I don't use the utilities on the PPC - personal preference.

On my desktop, when using Windows XP, I use the disk management snap-in, from the management console.

Right-click on your PC icon (My Computer) and select the "Manage" option. Under the storage heading, select the "Disk Management" item. Then, in the lower pane of the window on the right, select the SD card, right-click and select format.

Re: SD size problem

ok so i go into the disk management snap-in.

i go to format the sd card. it asks for a Volume label, file system (which I can only choose FAT32), and allocation unit size. And it asks whether or not I want to do a quick format. What settings should I do?

I would NOT select the option for Quick Format.

I would leave the Volume Label blank.

Re: SD size problem

after the format, the sd (when in the phone) has the same size as before -- 4GB

BAH ! Shens ...

</sarcasm>

Very interesting ...

We have established that the SDHC card is formatted on the
PC and has a ~8GB capacity and that there are no formatting errors.

We have established that this SDHC card, when inserted into the PPC, is not recognized at the same formatted capacity as when inserted into the PC.

When your phone reboots, there are (for a few moments) a couple of lines of text displayed (in red). What are those?

In my case, they are (no dashes on the screen):

Quote:

M03 -------- P DCAAXAM-4350-H
B01 -------- R 3.37.10
------------ D 3.02

What do yours read?

Also, are you completely opposed to flashing a different ROM as a method of trying to isolate the (potential) problem?

I would suggest that you try the leaked sprint ROM ... just for the heck of it. (presuming that you are a Sprint subscriber).

That is the radio that I have. Should I try the leaked Alltell radio? Or should I just try a different rom...?

I may not be correct, but as I understand it, support is enabled via a combination of drivers / os interaction and is not necessarily dependent upon the radio.

It may seem like un-necessary hoops to jump through, but using either the Altell or Sprint (OEM Packaged) ROM would establish, I think, a baseline behavior to compare against.

I would caution that if you flash a rom that was produced by a carrier other than yours, if you let customizations run, you may end up calling customer service to get phone and data service completely enabled again. Essentially, whichever rom you choose (Altell released or Sprint leaked) don't let the customizations run, unless you are a subscriber of that provider.
