SD size problem
I have an 8GB SD card. When I put it into the 6900, it only recognizes 4GB. I was led to believe that this phone could do 8GB. Does anyone know what's going on?
Thanks! |
Re: SD size problem
what brand, where did you purchase it from? i have a sandisk 8gb and mine shows 8 gig just fine.
do you have stock or some other Rom? |
Re: SD size problem
i have OMJ's full custom verizon rom
|
Re: SD size problem
I know there's some threads discussing memory cards getting corrupted after a while but not recognizing half of the capacity I've not heard. i haven't had any problems with mine. did your memory card come formatted already? or did you format yourself? it could also be the file system the card was formatted to? also try a different rom.
|
Re: SD size problem
it says that it's formatted as FAT16. I don't know if that makes a difference compared to FAT32 or NTFS.....?
also, i have an adapter that goes to a usb flash drive and when I put it in there and check on my computer, I get 8GB, but when I put it in the phone, I get the half. could it be the formatting or the rom? thanks |
Re: SD size problem
Interesting ... presuming that it is blank (no data yet), I'd be interested in knowing the results if you were to format it as Fat32 on your PC card reader and after formatting as Fat32, see what the PPC sees.

Re: SD size problem
i could do that and get back to you

Re: SD size problem
and WM6 was made to handle high capacity memory cards, but for Sanderz6900's case i may find rare. i've heard of a case with another touch owner about an 8GB card messing some dude's touch up bigtime from a sprint rep. i for one never had that problem with my mogul at all.

Re: SD size problem
ok so it turns out that I checked again using the adapter and it shows 7.35GB of available space on my computer but when i check with total commander in the device it only has 3824.2MB!?!?
What is going on here? |

Re: SD size problem
well...i checked on my computer and it's supposedly fat32 already!
|
Re: SD size problem
maybe you should try to format the microsd in your phone using resco explorer. Maybe it will see the whole size.
|
Re: SD size problem
i don't think i have resco explorer, unless it came with omj's full custom verizon rom
maybe i should try formatting it as ntfs or fat16? does total commander have a format feature? |

Re: SD size problem
resco explorer doesn't have a format feature...
|
Re: SD size problem
nevermind...it does lol
|
Re: SD size problem
so i try to format it and I get an error/"Warning" that says...
"Can't format selected storage drive. Check if your card is unlocked." anyone know what that means? |
Re: SD size problem
yes coz I used it when I cannot format my hcsd microsd on xp machines

Is this message from your PPC, when you use the storage management utility or is this from your desktop/laptop OS? Personally, if I can help it, I don't use the utilities on the PPC - personal preference. On my desktop, when using Windows XP, I use the disk management snap-in, from the management console. Right-click on your PC icon (My Computer) and select the "Manage" option. Under the storage heading, select the "Disk Management" item. Then, in the lower pane of the window on the right, select the SD card, right-click and select format. Best regards, -boggsie |
Re: SD size problem
that error was from the ppc. resco explorer 08 gave me that error.
i'll try your way, boggsie...thanks for all the help btw |
Re: SD size problem
ok so i go into the disk management snap-in.
i go to format the sd card. it asks for a Volume label, file system (which I can only choose FAT32), and allocation unit size. And it asks whether or not I want to do a quick format. What settings should I do? |

I would leave the Volume Label blank. Best regards, -boggsie |
Re: SD size problem
after the format, the sd (when in the phone) has the same size as before -- 4GB

</sarcasm> Very interesting ... We have established that the SDHC card is formatted on the PC and has a ~8GB capacity and that there are no formatting errors. We have established that this SDHC card, when inserted into the PPC, is not recognized at the same formatted capacity as when inserted into the PC. When your phone reboots, there are (for a few moments) a couple of lines of text displayed (in red). What are those? In my case, they are (no dashes on the screen): Quote:
Also, are you completely opposed to flashing a different ROM as a method of trying to isolate the (potential) problem? Best regards, -Boggsie |
Re: SD size problem
the only difference i have when my phone reboots is that i have the 3.37.15 radio.
and actually, i am not opposed at all...right now i am using OMJ's full custom verizon rom but my gps never locks so i was going to try mustan-tech or ludester's or vetvito's later today...after i decide which i like better. any suggestions? thanks! |

Re: SD size problem
That is the radio that I have. Should I try the leaked Alltell radio? Or should I just try a different rom...?

It may seem like un-necessary hoops to jump through, but using either the Altell or Sprint (OEM Packaged) ROM would establish, I think, a baseline behavior to compare against. I would caution that if you flash a rom that was produced by a carrier other than yours, if you let customizations run, you may end up calling customer service to get phone and data service completely enabled again. Essentially, whichever rom you choose (Altell released or Sprint leaked) don't let the customizations run, unless you are a subscriber of that provider. Best regards, -boggsie |
Re: SD size problem
well i flashed vetvito's rom and it still gives me 4GB
|
Re: SD size problem
So FOR SURE windows can read all 8GB, right?
If not, you could have gotten ripped off... mislabeled card |
Re: SD size problem
i thought about that but it's pretty conclusive when I put it into my computer and it says, available space is 7.35GB
|
Re: SD size problem
Oh ok. That is strange especially if you're using a custom ROM.
I'll give you this link. It worked for me when I had my apache, but IDK how it will work on the Touch. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328330 The cab is in a link on there. |

Re: SD size problem
ok so this is really weird...
i tried to put more than 4GB from my computer. it gets to 3.58GB and i can't add any more. i click the drive properties and it says that i'm using 7.19 gigs up and have only 150MB left hmmm...the mystery continues |
