Jeez... now I'm not sure again. DHarvey or OMJ... decisions... decisions...
I guess this will be one of those decisions that I'll make when I get to it. Of course I could take the whole freakin weekend and try both.

I've been reading myself to sleep every night for the last couple of weeks trying to figure as much of this stuff out as possible. I was pretty much decided on waiting till Verizon releases a ROM update. But I've been with Verizon for years and I know they always seem to be at least a year behind cutting edge so I'm settled on diving in with the rest of you ppcgeek's.

It seems to me that DHarvey's ROM's are flashier with more doo-dads and OMJ ROM's are basic and clean. Is that a fair assessment?

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

I first used OMJ's day b4 yesterday. Seemed to drain the battery pretty fast and I could get a GPS lock all day the next day.

Put DHARVEY'S black on last night. Love it. Love the theme and GPS working like a champ. Seems smoother to me and a tid bit more stable.

Well it was pretty much a complete waste of time for me. Not sure what went wrong but at least my phone is working again... sans all the apps and configuring I had done.

Ugh. Now I'm not sure whether to try again or spend the next week getting it back like it was.

Maybe this weekend I'll tackle my first flash. Maybe. I'm pretty happy with the way my XV6900 is working now but the lure of GPS is pretty tempting and I'd love to get some of the other features working... like bluetooth tethering, streaming video, and bluetooth sync. I'm not sure if flashing will unlock these features but they damn sure don't work now.

I have bluetooth tethering and syncing working on my Verizon XV6900 with the stock rom. The bluetooth syncing was simple, just turned on bluetooth discovery on the laptop and on the phone and did a search for devices. The bluetooth tethering was a little more involved. Here's a post on how I did that.

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

Well today is another day. I read ppcgeeks for hours last night after my coke unlock failed. Ths is a very humbling experience but now I'm riled up so I'm going to try again.

I had hard reset my Touch last night before I started in hopes of avoiding any conflicts but the one thing I forgot about was the 2Gb SD card that I had in there. After searching the forums I found that SDHC cards can cause the exact problem I was having. Not sure why (maybe the unlocker tries to read/write the SD), but even though my card is not SDHC it is 2Gb.

I also went to my office to use and XP machine instead of my Vista laptop at home. That was my second mistake. I can never get any work done at the office. Besides that machine is connected to W2K3 server, has partitioned drives and all kinds of fancy configs that I'm sure annoyed the coke unlocker.

I'm going to try again here in a few with clean XP laptop and no SD card. Wish me luck... I'm goin' in.

And if this doesn't work, I've got a recently refurbished efficiency apartment that's vacant right now. It's two blocks from the beach in Naples Florida. Perhaps I'll offer a reward of a week or two stay at no charge to the ppcgeeker that can do @#$@# @#$@#% FOR ME!! ](*,)

They don't intimidate me. Make me mad yes, but not intimidate me. I figure VZW is gouging me $150 per month for a crippled phone so I don't have much loyalty to them.

On the other hand, they did try to intimidate me... or at least is seemed so... when I called in last night to authenticate. "Why did you hard reset?" "You shouldn't need a new A-key after a hard reset". "What had you done to your phone". "I see that you did *228 earlier, why did you do that?". I just basically answered, "look. it was messed up. I reset it. Now it doesn't work. Are you going to help me or do I need to look for another carrier.".

Lord I hope I don't have to call back and get the same VZW tech today.

Sounds exactly like they're catching on to us.

Do you remember the phone cops episode of "WKRP in Cincinnati"? LMAO

Just because we're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after us.

=D> Interesting though that I just replaced my phone - and hacked it again - to find that this time - after upgrading my radio - I DID NOT HAVE TO RE-AUTHENTICATE. My last 2 xv69's had to reauthenticate - so maybe they fixed it or maybe I slipped through the cracks.

Funny story about the tech's catching on:
I bricked my phone b/c the D-pad was broken - I took it to a VZ service person - it booted and the "Press screen to align" came up - and after 2 clicks it hard reset again. Her response "We'll get you a new phone come back in 20 minutes." All they do is plug in the phones to transfer contacts and then activate the phone - they're not going to look at the radio.

Every time I do a hard reset, I have to call and re-authenticate my phone. I have done 2 or 3 hard resets with just the stock ROM, no change to the radio, etc., just a standard hard reset.

I just flashed my phone yesterday--thanks to Negamann for the help--and I even changed my ESN to a different phone, but when I changed my ESN back to my Touch, I STILL had to call to re-authenticate.

Regardless, I've never had them question me when I call in.

(The odd thing is that I previously had a Motorola Q, and I never had to call them after doing a hard-reset... this is the first phone I've ever had with VZW that has forced me to do so...)

Anyway (and sorry to ramble), the bottom line is that I don't think anyone should worry about calling VZW to authenticate their phones because whether you do a standard master reset, or upgrade your radio and flash with a cooked ROM, you may still have to call them!

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

I had to reauth every time i flashed. Then i saw a tip to auth another phone first, then flash, then reauth. It seems that if your radio is on and you flash to another rom, it cause a hiccup in their system. Like maybe they expect to see 1 config and see another. Anyway, I now put m phone in airplane to shut all radio and data off, then flash. So far, havent had to reauth after flashing. (prob will happen now..:drunken:)

I'm trying it out. It's pretty hungry on the memory..I'm at 53% as opposed to 35% I had with DH's.

But I like it. It runs pretty well and doesn't have any obvious glitches I can see.

I'd put it right up there with DH's. Kudo's for the hard work!

FYI- I am still running my stock rom and have had problems with the phone in the past few weeks. I have held off trying to update because of it. I called VZW tech support and they had me do a hard reset. I was told that every time you do a hard reset on this phone you have to call tech support so they can give you the "Akey." Thought I would pass this along.

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

I use vzw and I've flashed countless times without issues. GPS works, I never have to call VZW to reauthenticate, and I have all the extras like TomTom 7, Garmin XT (the best), Opera, etc. Until you're comfortable with the whole thing only do vzw specific ROMs.
PPCHaven.com has a Verizon Haven thread that's quickly growing . Check it out. This site is amazing but it's mostly Sprint guys here though they will do whatever it takes to help out others. I've been helped lots by these guys here so don't be afraid to PM someone asking for help or posting new threads.

Currently using Negamann's 303 ROM which works great. Others that I've tried and are also good are any by Dharvey, OMJ, and Nexvision but that's just me. Experiment and give feedback and you'll get more updates.

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

Looking for a little help:

Ok so I read through just about every post concerning flashing my 6900.

Sadly it was after I began the process....my fault.

Here is where I am at and looking for support.

Phone calls work, text, mms, gps and the OS are all are stable.

I am not able to connect to the EVDO network. 1X is connecting fine.

I called and generated an A-key and was able to type it into the EPST menu. What I am looking for are the actual data settings for the EPST menu.

Unless you guys know that there is no hope for accessing the EVDO network.

I started with the Sprint rom . I did let customs run half way then reset. Had roaming and data issues. Eventually flashed back the unlocker and lower sprint rom. Then reflashed using the proper steps to the current roms. Everything else works but I thing I screwed my radio. EVDO is trying to access Vision services (Sprint Data) instead of Verizon.

Is this a settings issue, or did I screw my radio forever? I don't mind using 1x. I just hope that the Verizon ROM comes out very soon.

I haven't seen or read anything related to an official 6.1 ROM from Verizon. Or any intention to for that matter. Think that we are screwed when it comes to that for the 6900?

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

so...... i upgraded to the new rom....

started with the upgraded sprint rom. Had to get the phone reauthenticated. told VZW i had to hard reset and they didn't even care.

tried to load two different cooked rom but they didn't work... had to load the sprint rom up again. Unfortunately, the second time i loaded the sprint rom, i let the customizations go through by accident. and i think that is why the problem in the next paragraph came from.

finally i tried to load dharvey's black vista rom and it worked like a charm except that it now says that I am on a "Preferred Network"

I am in the process of correcting that, however, if anyone has a solution, please let me know.

I think when i let the customizations run, it put me on the spring network. so i believe itsome file or setting is not allowing me to connect. I will say though that I was able to connect to the internet after the first time i upgraded the rom. Rev-A speeds were insanely fast. pages loaded what seemed like almost instantly compared to the original rom.

Asked Verizon customer service and this is what they had to say...

"Verizon Wireless is committed to providing the very latest in products and services. At this time, we are unable to state if or when Windows Mobile 6.1 will be offered for your PDA. We understand and apologize for any frustration regarding this but we are only able to provide information regarding products or services that we are currently offering. We are unable to disclose any unconfirmed information because it would be subject to change and could raise expectations that may not be met. Usually if there is an approved update from the manufacturer they will send it to us and we have to test it on our end first to ensure the update has no flaws. We recently just released the 6.1 update for our Samsung I760. I am most certain it will get released but we just cannot say when?"

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

I unlocked my Verizon XV 6900 using Cokes unlocker. That was uneventful. I then installed the released Sprint ROM and did not allow customizations. When I did the reset prior to customizations, that is when the trouble started. The phone would not even get to the point where you align the screen. Took the battery out for a few seconds and tried again. Same result.

I found that I could get back to the three color screen in Cokemans unlocker, and then loaded one of the custom ROM's. I forget which one now. That one would boot to the windows mobile splash screen and freeze.

Then I decided to put the stock Verizon ROM back. That worked, but it said that I had no radio (not true because I could access the internet). Then began the problem that after about ten seconds, the phone would go dark, and the only way to see the screen was to do a soft reset. Then if no activity on the phone for more than about ten seconds, dark again.

I gave up and took the phone to a Verizon store, and they gave me a new one, since mine was only a couple of weeks old.

I would suggest holding off on any upgrade unless you feel lucky.

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

Upgrading your phone has nothing to do with luck -- it has everything to do with following the steps necessary correctly.

In your case you let the SPRINT customizations run even though you are on VERIZON...there's warning signs not to do that all over the place. Even if you just once "started" to let them run it will mess up your phone a lot and take LOTS of small fixes to work correctly.

If you follow the instructions provided, for example in negaman's helpful post, all will be fine and you can have a XV6900 with GPS & REV-A without problems, just like the rest of us ^^

buddhatikkigod 08-16-2008 11:52 PM

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

yeah dude, youre not supposed to let the customizations run if you dont have a Sprint phone. The reason is because after you unlock with imcokemans unlocker you flash a specific rom to your phone, this rom happens to be a Sprint rom (no way around that) so if you dont have sprint you need to stop the phone from launching the "sprint Customizations" You can do this by (as explained clearly in the instructions, please next time read thoroughly before you do something like this) just pushing the reset pin hole when the 3 Second Sprint Customization Countdown starts. Then you follow the steps some more and you'll be able to flash a rom built for your specific carrier. You let those customizations run and you should be all set.

pay attention... read all directions thoroughly ... did your teacher ever give you a test and tell you to read all directions before answering any questions . The final direction tells you not to do the test at all... i remember half the class started the test.

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

I followed Negamans instructions and was able to flash my phone no problem. Not sure whether I have Rev A or not for sure because when I do a ##778# Rev A isn't listed on the data parameters but I am getting good speed - 1300k/sec tethered over bluetooth. GPS is working great.

I've spent the better part of the afternoon trying to get the Vogue Unlocker 2.31 to work on my XV6900 and absolutely can NOT get it to show anything other than 2.00 CoKe.

This is getting really frustrating... Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've ensured that nothing is running other than Activesync on my PC and on the phone... It gets to the rainbow screen and shows CoKe 2.00... The app gets to the point where it tells me to disconnect and reconnect the phone, so I do it and press a key... nothing else seems to happen on the phone... Doesn't budge from 2.00 ..

I flashed my phone with the "Official Verizon Leaked Rom". Let customzation run. I also used the HTC Titan Quick GPS app. THis downloads the gps empericals (sat location data) I get cold gps fixes....IN DOORS in about 15 seconds. I usually track from 6 -10 sats!

No issues so far.
