Seems to me that it's a manufacturer's defect and none of us should have to file an insurance claim. I sure wouldn't. I contacted utstarcom and they told me to send mine in. In other words, they didn't even question it. I wouldn't go that route, though, as vzw should replace it so you're not without a phone. If the local store won't make it right, go to another, and if that's not an option or convenient, I'd call the 800# and make lots of noise. Let us know how it works out for you. BTW, did you put on a custom rom?

Re: Known Verizon Issue with cracked outer casing

I've been to two stores and had several calls to vzw, they say since my account has been now tagged about the crack there is nothing I can do but have the insurence replace it.

They say there are no known issues about this. I would love to know what words the orginal poster used.

No known issues ... amazing. Have you tried contacting utstarcom?

Re: Known Verizon Issue with cracked outer casing

Thats what they said and gave me the number but also said its likely I'll be without a phone for a few weeks... I would rather pay the $50.00 and drop it in the toilet..

At least then I don't have to deal with a downgrade either!

Yeah I have a cooked rom... Anyone have a load out there for VZ that works on the 3.X radio that looks like the stock in case I can't get this downgraded...

Re: Known Verizon Issue with cracked outer casing

Crap, I just noticed a 3rd crack on my phone. This new one is right above the volume slider. What concerns me is that if this crack goes all the way through the faceplate, will I develop problems with the touchscreen since I already have a crack below the slider? This is absurd! Crack locations: Front faceplate - Left side - below volume slider (very noticeable, goes all the way from the chrome strip to the touchscreen), above volume slider (crack just developed, small for now starting at the chrome strip), and Right side - middle of the phone (crack goes all the way from the the chrome strip to the touchscreen).

Re: Known Verizon Issue with cracked outer casing

Now I'm nervous about flashing!!! I have the black silicon case from Verizon, so hopefully, first, it doesn't crack, and, two, if it does, this case covers it well. I'm suprised it didn't crack when I p***** out on my couch with it in my pocket.

Also, as for the casing quality, take off the battery cover and check out that quality, I almost snapped the dang thing in half!

Re: Known Verizon Issue with cracked outer casing

Re: Known Verizon Issue with cracked outer casing

I will be calling today. BTW, I have always had my phone in the silicone cover and have never dropped it. I only opened the SD card slot once to put the card in, so it's not like I am exerting too much force on the casing.
