scratch on touchscreen

i scratched my PDAs screen somehow after a couple weeks of use. I might try to use Scratch Doctor at circuit city to try to get it off as a verizon sales rep recommended for touchscreen, but i was a little scared to do this on touchscreen, will this work?

If it works, afterwards ill buy a protector... i delayed that too long as i wanted to ask later here if touchscreens are fine with scratch protector screens? Any brands recommend? i am using Verizon vx6900 btw.

i read there might be a plastic/digitizer already on top of the LCD based on this post on similar xv6700, which scares me a bit as maybe i cannot rips that touch screen off since its so thin... dont wanna buy a part and install it hehe...
"Having actually cut my screen, I think there's a protective plastic layer above the touchpad above the lcd. The top layer is bonded to whatever is under it, judging by pictures of internals. Also, I think the touchpad and LCD might be a single unit - but I have no clue. So, you could buy a replacement, spend an hour to replacing it yourself; send it to a service center for ($65?); or spend $3 and 30 seconds on a screen protector."

[P.S. sorry i reposted this from another post in different thread, so pasted here]

I don't know how bad your scratch is however I've used a scratch remover for plastic on my old XV6700 and it worked great. I've also used toothpaste and elbow grease on my ipod display and that worked great.

I use the default screen protector on my Vogue and it's not bad.

The part of the screen you scratched can be replace. If you bought the top half of the phone shell it comes with that plastic screen built into it.

As for quality screen protectors. I'm personally a massive fan of the ones BoxWave sells. They are completely invisible on the screen and hold up insanely well. I've been using them for years now and every phone I've had them on has had a perfect screen its entire life.

hey trehouse, its not terrible. but u can feel it when moving finger nail across teh screen and see it a lil' if you look for it when the backlight is on. If there is a plastic film on top of teh LCD then i beleive the scratch just affected that as its not terribly deep.

hmmmm toothpaste and elbow grease? how would that work?

Also which scratch remover did you try? was it for plastic film on top of LCD, is that what these kinda products are unscratching?

Thanks vaxick, i think ill go with the BoxWave as they have HTC model which i assume works for Verizon's version of Touch.

Toothpaste is an abrasive. It works. Put some on a paper towel and scrub the scratch back and forth. The scratch will be minimized if not completely cleaned.

I used a scratch remover for plastic windows on convertible car tops which I got for my jeep which has clear roll up windows on the soft top. I think it was from Maguires whom also make car wax.

Good luck!

Good tip, but you shouldnt use a paper towel. Use something like a terry cloth towel instead. Paper towel fibers can scratch too!

how about toilet paper? =P.

Re: scratch on touchscreen

Toilet paper would rip apart and disintegrate.

You should definitely only use terry cloth, or even better, a microfiber cloth or towel.

Welp I took off my old screen protector and turned on the shower before installing a new protector this time so I wouldn't get any dust.. lol

Work perfect.. But today at work I was holding my phone and a manilla envelope with the metal clasp thing..

Didn't notice that it was open point out. I held the phone face into the clasp.. sigh, brand spanking new, clean as can be protector has a face carved into it.. Grr.. now to find another one of those Sprint supplied protectors.. Fits great..

Man it's almost depressing.. :???: Thankfully it wasn't directly on the screen.
