Internet connection sharing on eee pc/ubuntu?

I have an Asus eee pc that runs ubuntu 7.10 instead of the stock linux OS. I try to use ICS the same way as xp but I can't get ubuntu to recognize the usb port/network...has anyone been able to get this working?

Any ideas?
