lost data no internet! please help
 

Hello everyone. I'll make this quick and easy question. I have successfully updated to 3.35 radio, and tried several different custom roms in the past 2 weeks... At some point, i lost my internet connection, went back to stock rom successfully, and tried entire process over with and without the new radio (depending on which rom i tried according to instructions) and still no internet. I have spent literally over 4 hours on the phone with bell (Canada) to no avail. Only other option is to beat it with a hammer. I have noticed a couple people have had the same problem.. i have read these and XDA forums for hours and hours and hours, to try and fix this and get my Data connection back. tried almost every Rom i could find... to no avail. I'm just wondering if anybody had a sound fix for getting the Data connection back working again before i go to the store i got it from and freaking out and trying to get a new phone, or sending it off for a warranty claim which they say could take 6-8 weeks. I have... several times. also, the tech guys have had me delete, remove battery, and re power up and it gets its connection settings automatically, so even when i make one manually, it still makes its own, and then it shows two connections, and "Auto Select" in the list. Thanks for your reply.

You've probably already done this but have you went to:

Settings > Phone >Services > Internet

It worked for me when my internet wasn't working.

Try this .works for me.
Start=setting=connections=connections
tap add a new connection
tap next
enter the number #777
tap next
on the user name leave it blanck
tap finish
on the network log on, select save password
tap OK.

i finally got somebody that was able to dig up the original voice mail password, because somebody mentioned in another thread that may work......and the dummy also gave me the password for the EPST (MSL) settings lol he said "i don't know what this one here is for, but write this number down too and try it" LOL
going to try these and see what happens

open internet explorer
type any web address,

on the network log on,
check mark Save password,
tap OK. This is for all windows movile devices

OKay, what is the PRI? Searched around and can't find a definition.. Any ideas how i can check this theory?? and/or fix that??


UPDATE: okay, I figured out what IPL stand for. makes cents what yoru saying. Question still remains tho. How can i check this theory?? and also, where can i get and/or fix a IPL/SPL? I'll do more searching in the meantime. Thanks again..

GRRRRRR!! This really sucks.!! BIGTIME!. Ive been fooling with this thing since 6Am... lol One thing that i did forget to mention, is... when i say no data, or internet.. this is what happens..
When i try any app. that wants internet, it will bring up the connection screen, "Connecting to Data, network... #777" type thing..... sometimes it will just sit there forever and ever... if i hit cancel... then in order for me to even make a phone call, i have to soft reset.... sometimes... (about 50% of the time) it will come up with an error screen after about 5 seconds of trying to connect, and it says "Unable to connect for an unknown reason, if you need to view or change settings, tap settings, if the problem continues reset your device according to manufactures instructions, and try again."

I just downloaded and tried the new Sprint Leaked rom, with the 3.37 radio, and still same thing. i still think it has something to do with the Username and PW in the ##778 settings... because i do remember seeing a bunch of (hex) information in the PW field in the past when i was snooping around and now its gone.... I even tried converting the two numbers that bell gave me to Hex and putting them in there... and nothing... the one that i seen in there before was a big *** long one... Anyhow... i'm almost giving up i'm soon going to get extremely angry and beat it or throw it off the 20 floor balcony just for kicks... <g> Thanks for reading.Any help is appreciated.

I just completed all steps in post #13 in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=392266&page=2 and cooked myself a new rom from PPC Kitchen (after running updater) and flashed it... still nothing..

okay i downloaded the CB and ran it. It doesn't appear to have done anything.. it didn't seem to add any shortcuts either.

okay, i figured out that it was in Settings/Phone. I ran it, and it tried to connect to the data network, and of course it didn't connect. So this method didn't work either.
i found a couple threads at HTCWikiki.com or whatever it is... and a few people have had the same problem with missing Data in the Username and PW field in the ##778# /security section. Wish i knew how and where i can get this information back..
there must be a way to... lol

Put the phone in DMMode Connect it to PC and use QPSt SOftware and go to Mip

Setting Tab

For EVDO use MIP Only
For Pure CDMA 1x use Simple IP
For Both and Roaming use MIP Prefered

in PPP Setting see that Atleast 1 Profile is Enabled and it is Selected

Okay... the reason why i haven't posted what i did to fix this, is because after tinkering around a little more, i realized that my phone is now only working in 1X mode LOL
When i boot it up, it shows EV no problem... As soon as i flash up the browser, during the connection process to the Data line, it switches to 1X and stays there. So, until i figure this out, I'm just going to hang tight so I can explain how i fixed that as well.. and also to make sure what i did to fix the original problem didn't create this one.if i can..

What does DMMode mean? never heard that one before... how do i get it into this mode?? Thanks

EDIT- Never mind.. i got it.. tinkering around now to see what i can break... :)

EDIT#2- I put it into DMMode with ##3424# and my computer detects it as "Generic Serial" but can't find/install a driver for it... Any ideas??

Okay, i finally got QPST to connect and read the phone. I checked these settings and it is set at MIP only already, and there are two profiles and both are active/turned on.

It is still forcing it into 1X Mode. I just went into settings/phone/services/mode of operation and selected EVDO only, and it switches back to EVDO mode.... When i attempt to connect to Data, it ditches the connection all together and comes up with error saying it could not connect to Data network. Bummer....
Still looking for answers..

I'm wondering if anybody is on the Bell network, that would consider doing me a really big favor, I think it has something to do with the MIP profiles.

go to Security and tell me what it says in the very top field after the @ i don't need your phone number <g> Also, how many characters is in the Password field... And if there is anything in the two PPP Fields??

Under the MIP Default profile is it enabled or Disabled?? If its Enabled what information is there?? Everything excluding your number of course...
Also, same thing for #1, #2 and so on... only looking for the information if the profile is enabled...
I know its alot to ask for, but your help is very appreciated...I'm pretty sure something got screwed up in these at some point in time. How?/ i'll likely never know... I think a couple weeks ago when the problem first started, i had a few too many brewskies when i was playing around with Radios.. <g> I'm determined to get this.. OKAY... i FINALLY got it working again, on EVDO full time. Holy sweet merceful!! LOL
Absolutely amazing what i went thru.
OKay... here we go... I'll do my best to retrace my steps and explain why this all went down.

Somewhere along the line, everything in the Security field (in ##778#) AND M.IP Profile #1, #2, and #3 or whatever got lost, or changed or something. Most likely lost as i had alot of fields blank. Now.. from what i understand the information in the
AAA Shared Secret field is an encrypted figure that is generated by Bell... and impossible to recreate. The Username is simple, it is simply your ESN in HEX format.
It is these fields tat are required to be able to use the EVDO Data network.. PERIOD. This is done during boot up of your phone. if it doesn't pass, then your phone will automatically revert to 1X for all Data because it doesn't require any kind of Authentication (from what i understand) So here is what i did.....
I'll completely omit what i did first time, when i lost ALL data to get it back, as i'm not sure if it will cause any problems, and not be able to use EVDO as what happened with me...

Tap Menu Reset It will Prompt for MSL Enter MSL

Once your device boots back up,

Hammer in ##yourMSL#
MDN = your9 digit Cell Number
MSID = your 9 digit Cell number
Home SID/NID#1 = 16420 / 65535 (I believe this is for Ontario, and i think that if you call any bell store or CS they will easily give you the SID for your province pretty easily, but i could be wrong, it could be the same across the whole country, this worked for me tho and i'm in NS, i'm going to switch it to 16390 because that is what is on my wifes phone)

MENU/then OK

NOW.. I would HIGHLY recommend ONLY following this procedure if you are using a stock Bell ROM and Radio, and of course on the Bell Canada network. I'm only saying this because its what i was using. If anybody tries this method using a Custom rom to regain EVDO, or Data PERIOD, or using another network please share your experiences here so others can learn..
I definitely learned something from this experience... Just not sure what yet.. LOL Now.. back to the 3.37 radio and my own cooked ROM.. LOL That will keep me busy for the next hour or so...
I sure hope this experience and repair job helps somebody else out.

In your journeys did you ever flash the stock Bell ROM to your phone and was your radio at 3.xx level? Want to know since there is talk of problems with downloading Radio code

Yep... two Sundays ago, is when i noticed my Data wasn't working at all.. It would just stick on the Dialing screen and stay there forever. At that point I was on the 3.37.10 Radio and a cooked rom i made myself with ppckitchen frying pan.. . i took a look a round some settings but didn't do much of anything.. I Immediately threw the .40 unlocker on it, and went back to the stock Rom that i found on UTStar.com And it still didn't do anything at all. from there i started my frantic episodes of staying up til midnight every night almost trying i swear 14,000 different things.. I'd never even come close to being able to remember even 1/3 of the things i tried lol. Thats why i just posted what I finally found to work.
And yes.. soon as I flashed back to stock rom, it put the original 1.59.10a radio on as well.


EDIT- So i just realized i never really did answer your question accurately. NO. I have never tried stick ROM with anything other than the stock 1.59.10a radio. Would be cool to try it tho. Maybe next week. :)

Okay. the last couple hours i actually took a break and sipped on a couple beers.
I just finished installing the 2.31 unlocker, and threw the origional Sprint leaked ROM file name is RUU_Vogue_4350_PPST_SpeciallNBH_SPRINT_WWE_3.02.65 1.2_Radio_435011_3.37.15_AM_NV_SPCS_1.33_0823_Test .exe
Sorry i can't remember which thread i got it from, but i can't see it being to hard to find, i thnk its was called the Origional Leaked Sprint ROM or something like that. It is the 3.37.15 radio. And of course i didn't let the customization run because i'm on Bell. I know it sounds funny, but i actually think i'm going to stay put for a while. I'm finding the latest 3.02 kitchen has been to difficult to get along with, and i'm used to the look and feel of it. Although i do like the Vista theme and plugins, only problem is it has a crush on the tip of the stylus and i like using my fingers.. Everything i use is either already here, or i already have the CAB file. Going to install GMaps here in a few minutes and go outside to get some air and try out the GPS. Chow..

Well.... everything seems to be working absolutely perfect... I installed 9 pieces of software that i like to use, and did some customizing of backgrounds and colors and stuff. GMaps is working fine, GPS Today screen thing works fantastic. locks on in about 2-3 minutes or so. I did the Regedit thing and changed the value to 4 going to retest when off work.
Only thing that kinda sucks is TCPMP refuses to load up after i installed it which is kinda strange... can't find an answer as to why... anybody know??
Other than that everything is working beautifully... oh yeah.. REV. a is def working, 978kbps bandwidth on mobilespeedtest.com chow for now

Grashoper, I can't thank you enough!
I have spent the past 1 1/2 weeks beating my head against the wall looking for a solution to this very problem. I have also searched the forums without success and have also been on the phone with tech support.
This really should be a sticky as I'm sure there are lots of us Bell users that could benefit from your efforts.

Do we know what causes this problem to occur? I know I flashed the Sprint rom and had no trouble at all (didn't let customizations run), and I'm sure I'm not the only one ...

Would be nice to know what to avoid.

Grashopper, I have been struggling with this issue, and have exhausted alll means of fixing this issue....

Reading your Topic gave me hope....cept, they didnt work. I understand that you were able to flash back/downgrade the radio to Recover to OEM ROM. How was this possible? Im not attempting with other stickys re: downgrading.

Everytime I attempt to return to OEM ROM, I receive an error on the Host PC "Invalid Command" ...This isnt meant for your type of device blah blah blah

Well, i'm not exactly 100% sure because i'm sure there are multiple reasons why this could occur. In my case, I tried putting a ROM that was supposed to have a 3.35 Radio, and i only had the stock bell rom on my blower, and it completely locked up during the transfer and I had a hell of a time getting anything to load onto it at all. I can't remember the sequence of events that i ran on the RUU, but somehow i managed to get the 3.35 radio, and a ROM that i fried up myself on PPCKitchen. At that point, my Data dissapeared. Went back to stock radio and ROM, and went from there. I have reverted back to the stock ROM twice sence with no problems. Now i'm back running another custom ROM i made myself, based on the latest PPCKtichen, and 3.37 Radio. Working fantastic.
Perahps sometime over the weekend i can try to help you with yours. I have learned alot from this experience, and there is a whole host of things that you can try.
In the meantime, i have been working on a glitch the past week or so. the time stamp on all my SMS (Text) message always shows 3 hours ahead on all incoming messages. All other times on the phone are fine. E-Mail accounts, MSN messages Etc. I'm, stumped. several people report this problem on various websites, but no solution yet. Chow for now...

EDIT- When your attempting to put the stock ROM back on, are you running the original .40 Unlocker? if not, this is a must.
