Re: Bell Vogue, upgrade options

I've flashed to the 3.37 alltel radio and tried numerous roms but because of some issues I've since reverted back to jd's rom test rom. This is what I found, I don't think we have rev a since I'm only getting speeds around just below 100 kbps to just below 600 kbps. I've never been able to get over 600 kbps so I don't think we have rev a in our area yet, but I'm not sure how we can find out whether bell has it here. The test I'm using is mobilespeedtest.com. I can't use speedtest.net like others here as being on bell, we get charged per kb of data when we tether it to a computer and I don't want to pay more for that when I already have internet at home. As for signal strength, I don't see much of an improvement either from pre-rev a/gps rom but I do know having the oem rom, there was a lot of freezing and the battery life wasnt as good so that's at least a reason to flash from the oem. The other thing you get is gps is enabled and you don't need a gps puck which is what I used before to use tomtom. So...If you don't really use gps and if we don't really have rev a, and if the signal strength is really no stronger, then flashing may be kind of pointless. Unless you just like trying new things which I kind of do... However, if you don't want to flash to a post rev a/gps rom, you may want to do a flash to a pre rev a/gps rom if you're having freezing problems and battery life is poor, as I think the custome roms are better in that regards. Well, that's my experience. Hope that helps you. |

Re: Bell Vogue, upgrade options
great thanks for the info. I'm not having any freezing and my battery life is great so it's probably not worth it for me than.

I'm assuming you're using Pocket IE to test? Try the test right after you install the ROM to rule out any third party apps that might cause this. IMO, if you don't use GPS at all, then the GPS Rev. A update is pointless because my speeds haven't changed all that much from the Bell stock rom. |

I tried mustan's rom before and I've never had anything above 600 kbps. I use PIE as well, and when I have opera 8.65 installed I use that too. I don't seem to be getting REV A/GPS speeds which leads me to believe I don't I may not have REV A in Vancouver. I'm thinking that the gps interfering with incoming calls may be just with bell users as so far it seems most that have had this problem are with bell. |

I'm on Bell and in Vancouver as well. After flashing the 337 radio and mustang's ROM, I do not have any problems regarding voice calls and GPS. In fact, I was able to make incoming and outgoing calls while using Garmin to navigate. I have tested and confirmed that it works with Mustangs ROM but not Ghettos. There is something wrong with the GPS in Ghettos ROM. Currently, I'm happy with my setup. I am having the stability of the stock Bell ROM plus the speed enhancements of a custom WM6.1 ROM and the bonus of GPS functionality. I can't ask for anything more... well, a better camera with a xenon flash would be one... that would be nice. Cheers. |

Re: Bell Vogue, upgrade options
I am on Bell in the Toronto area and I am happy I went ahead and updated...
I installed the Alltel ROM, then the Titan 3.35 radio firmware, then OMJ's 6.1 ROM... That is another improvement to upgrading to many of the ROMs available... Windows Mobile 6.1... Including threaded SMS and many other fixes/improvements that I can't list... ![]() Before my upgrades I think the fastest connection I had was around 600kbit... After my ROM upgrade I have gotten as high as 1048kbit... It really all boils down to this... If you are happy the way it is then why change it?

Re: Bell Vogue, upgrade options
Hmm, I just got 932kbps using mobilespeedtest with the stock Bell firmware... what kind of speeds is Rev A supposed to offer?
